Remote start from FOB

Can't seem to get the FOB to remote start.
It works from the app however.

Called BMW genius, they seem to think it's a defective FOB.
I think it's weird that both my FOBs however would be defective.

Anyone else having problems with remote start from the FOB?

Mine works I just hit lock button 3 times. Wait few seconds and car starts

ya same here, lock button 3 times fairly quickly and then a delay and it starts.

You have to enable it in idrive

Yup, i think i got it enabled in idrive - under climate settings i believe- preconditioning. Unless there's another setting to enable that I'm missing?

Did you enable it in idrive?

3 times quickly?
I thought it was 2 times quickly, then a 3rd you hold it down?

Did you get the remote start option on your build? I’m not sure if that option includes app and Key..

Doesn't have to be quick and there is no need to hold down the button.

Correct. Setting, car then preconditioning check. I have to go in there to check it.

Thanks guys! That worked!

Crazy, even BMW genius told me to tap twice, and hold the third one down for at least 5 seconds. The videos I saw on youtube said same thing! The video posted above said three times tap, hold the fourth.

Well damn they don’t need to explain to what a Higgs Boson is but at least know how to remote start the car.

I mean at least get people who are tech savvy in that role. The ones I've met seem clueless if you ask anything slightly different than a normal person.

The salesmen aren’t far off. Most of the time I know more about the car than they do

Only most of the time? seems like you got a few good ones

my salesman was actually the only one who knew his stuff. This was after speaking with ~30 dealerships

I'll have to agree with knowledge base of most of the sales guys i've spoken with as well.
I'm pretty good with tech, and am familiar with the typical lack of competence with alot of staff in the tech world (i.e. geek squad at BB).
For some reason, i thought BMW genius would be different.
Definitely wrong!
In fact, I was told that remote 3D is not working and waiting for a software fix.
However, I tried the suggestions found here...and my remote 3D is working like a charm.
Bottom line though, love my new X5, and especially the remote start and other techie goodies!
