does the 2022 X5 model have tow package as standard or selective?

tried to build online and didnt see anywhere regarding the tow package that includes the Class III trailer hitch pre-installed... do we have this as standard or optional ? i just couldn't find this option to add to my build.. thanks for advice!

Oh boy. Hate to report this but it doesn't even have an option for a tow package due to the 'supply chain'.

Right. The X5 recently had the towing hitch option removed due to the parts shortage. You were able to order it until quite recently.

My build (which should be done around November 1/2) still has it listed. Hopefully, it doesn’t get deleted, because I already have the Touchscreen Delete and Backup Assistant Delete.

that's really sad... i thought the global supply shortage is mainly related to the chips....one of reasons i sold my previous X3 was because it didnt have the tow package option to add to my build but X5 does have this option back to years ago. as now my family has more need for outdoor activities and towing compared to 5 years ago when we had X3. it's definitely worth having the factory-installed hitch when the car delivers.

mind if you could share the cost for adding the tow package to the build?

it was $550
the deletion is due to the trailer wiring harness from what i have heard, not the actual hitch itself.

Everything is supply chain affected. Even though assembly is in SC, who knows where all the parts came from. We should continue to expect random deletions. BMW has already warned shortages will last until well into 2023. Maybe we get some parts back - reports of B&O returning next year for example - but you won’t be able to get a new non-COVID model for a while.

I do think there's more going on than the chips. There's overall supply problems due to a major shortage of drivers globally, changes to overseas shipping, and material shortages.

On the X3s the shadowline trim is being deleted, and that has no electronics whatsover. They're also not able to get their standard 19" wheels/tires.

The next thing people are concerned about is the magnesium shortage, which affects aluminum.

One of the many reasons why it's bad to rely on materials coming out of China. The CCP will decide to stop selling rare earth metals to the West as a way of coercing desired behavior or in worst case, due to war.

Not to get political, but now you understand why so many of us who bled over there are concerned about walking away from Afghanistan so abruptly. Well, the obvious reasons for sure, but just from an economic perspective it was a stupid, stupid move. Or maybe intentional…look who walked right in to take over the rare earth mining there too.

And the Chinese are balls deep in Africa too…. I always flew a lot down there, but actually lived in and worked out of Dar es Salaam for a good bit of 2012, and also ran logistics support, and did all the airfield surveys for every major airport in East and South Africa (the continent) over that year. Literally drove through entire brand-new Chinese cities everywhere. Hell, I had to go through a Chinese military checkpoint to get to my hangar in Dar es Salaam.

In addition to exporting huge percentages of their population that they can’t feed at home, they ain’t there for the scenery or to go on safari. All about natural resources.

/rant off

Man, I’m glad I got my car ordered already! LOL

I had a 2019 X5 without the tow package. BMW quoted me $8000 to add the OEM version and $3000 to add the invisible hitch version. It requires the whole rear bumper and taillight assemblies to be removed.

I ended up ordering a 2021 with the tow package earlier this year. I am so grateful I missed most of these supply issues. I believe soft close doors and the heated and cooled cup holders were the only major things missing in March when I ordered.

CCP are a gang that only care about the power that they wield.

I did my time underwater doing spooky stuff for most of the eighties. Worst thing I had to worry about was having a Krivak try and sink us if they found us... /rant off.

I think I got one of the very last ones with the tow hitch. It does suck not to be able to order that. From what I understand, dealers can’t even order the retrofit kit to install it for you; it’s in that short of a supply.

I just picked up my X5 Friday and I too have a hitch. My dealer said he could still add a hitch on his end even though it doesn’t show up on as an option on the BMW website. He said it makes no sense but everyone he’s ordered has come with a hitch.
