RFT equipped vehicles in the US don’t have a jack, wrench, compressor, warning triangle, first aid kit, or flat fix kit...if you have any of those things, you either ordered the spare tire kit, or your dealer threw them in.

I miss the "torch" in the glove box.

If you really want a set of tools...you can always order/purchase the "Driver Utility Set" from the BMW accessory catalog:
Driver utility set Part number: 82292151462

I believe this is the "old" standard kit found in EU/ROW vehicles along with warning triangle and vest which has now been discontinued for purchase.

Part database says that production was suspended 1/26/2019...but perhaps there’s some floating out there as the stock depletes or past owners held onto them prior to selling...and now there wives are telling them to clean out the clutter.

I believe the corporate BMW theory is that Americans only know how to use a cell phone.

No I reckon it is the theory for all BMW owners worldwide. I remember when my E30 toolkit was the only decent tools in the household and was used to fix the plumbing electrics and the kids bicycles

There’s multiple BMW accessories that look like they would fit that space…like the tool kit that was mentioned above in post #27…or perhaps the safety vest. Or you could secure personal items like a pair of gloves or a foldable tarp.

The felt strips are there to prevent the cargo cover from rattling when it's stored in that spot.

When I had to have my X3 35i towed last year because of a loose brake caliper (right after a brake job), the tow truck driver couldn't find the tow hook anywhere. Looked all through and under the cargo compartment. Fortunately he had one on his truck that fit the X3. Later, going through the X3 in preparation for a trade-in for an X5 I found the tow hook. It was at the bottom of the deep side compartment on the driver's (left) side of the cargo area, which I never knew it even opened. The 2021 X5 50i I now have, bought used, only has the tow hook--easily seen under the cargo floor panel--and a special lug nut socket.
