Thanks the charger looks physically identical to the Anker one I posted. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some no-name brand.

Would like to avoid this happening

Thanks for tte help. That specific one isn't available locally on Amazon Canada (they do have a double USB-A version, but this other brand looks similar at the tip so I ordered it:

looks like they have some newer versions.

AINOPE USB C Car Charger, 36W

These had some bad reviews about fit and durability.

i read that thread you linked and deduce the fire was not due to his 12V adapter but by letting his charging cable hang loose while still connected to the adapter, and the exposed end shorted on the metal seat railing.

my adapter has been plugged in for the past 8 months without issue knock on wood lol. I don't leave open-ended charging cables dangling about. (I have a dashcam plugged into that USB A port.)

Update:
That model charger does indeed work. Very small profile, and when I hooked up my Samsung Note it said "Super Fast Charging".

I picked up my X6 and of course, I couldn't use my V1.

I cannot believe that I have to make a service appointment to update these. That or buy a bag of 100 from McMaster. What a PITA.

At least the newest SIB states it's a one time warranty item.

Did the dealer fix it?

The dealer replaced both cigarette lighters and the V1 still didn’t work.

I called Valentine again and found out there were multiple updates and that an early update did not let the V1 start up. Normally, one can use the V1 app to apply updates but b/c I didn’t know that and I missed that one specific update the unit was bricked and I had to send it back to have them apply the updates.

The current SIB (at least from what I have seen) is to replace the socket. It takes the dealer about 15-minutes, and a lot of that is paperwork. While replacing the screw should still work, the new socket is probably the better way to go.

FWIW, there are two types of sockets...a cigarette socket and an accessory socket. They have slightly different specs. Those in the BMW are accessory sockets and a plug designed to fit in a cigarette socket doesn't fit properly. Usually, one designed for an accessory socket will fit in either, but not the other way around.
