I've read all your comments...and just going to say, day 10 since in production status and still no status change. Presumably tomorrow when I check, it would already be in quality check? Lol
My production week was this week.

This timing thing actually is an issue as I'm doing an outside loan. And most lenders will only let you lock 30 days at a time. Given west coast transport itself is 3 weeks, knowing exactly what stage of production is pretty important...

yeah, same for me though mostly because I move around a lot and am usually out of state and I don't want my vehicle sitting at the dealer for more than 45 seconds

At this point all I can say is it was dispatched on the 18th and it took about 5 days to go from awaiting to dispatched ...

Like I said, something seems a little janky as mygarage is now showing "in transit [to dealer]" but bmwna is saying it's not in KC yet sooo ...

Ah, sorry, Kansas City.

As I understand it, the vehicles are (generally?) shipped from Spartanburg to Kansas City via Norfolk Southern, and then they change carriers to BNSF because Norfolk doesn't operate west of the mississippi.

From KC, bay area cars go to the Richmond VPC and hang around for 5ish days for customs inspection and are then trucked to the dealerships

Haha VPC and "port" are legacy concepts from importing a car from Germany. I think VPC to dealership is 1-2 days.

I dunno - my understanding is the Spartanburg plant grounds is a free/fair trade zone (per fair trade act of 1935) - that is, they can import parts for assembly without duty as if they were in Germany and it's maintained by border patrol (which is why BMW Spartanburg has their own police, fire, ambulance, etc) and BMW has also set up Inland Port Greer (10 min from Spartanburg) as an extension of the Port of Charleston which, now, other companies use too (e.g., Adidas).

Since there are no duties or tariffs on the imported parts (like engines!), it's as if the vehicles were built in Germany, with taxes/customs/inspections taking place on the assembled product (i.e., each vehicle) at the "port of entry" or VPC which, in this case, I believe is Richmond (and when & where the Monroney stickers are assigned).

I could be wrong on some of those details, but I believe that's the bureaucratic purpose of those VPCs ... "importing" the vehicles.

Interesting! I recall something like this. Now it makes sense that it takes a few days to process each car at VPC

Just like that, awaiting carrier assignment

I think coming week of the 8th. So what's the thing about figuring out what Norfolk Southern train you're on?

you gotta get the bill of lading which your dealer may (or may not) give you.

I've only spoken with 2 BMWNA reps thus far, but both declined to give out the BoL ... said "we're not allowed to disclose that information", as in, both used the exact same words!

Like it's some super secret thing where when it gets in the wrong hands, a train will get hijacked by masked men on horseback like old country western movies?

Ha, well I was thinking more, they used to give them out and then a bunch of fucking wack-a-doo BMW obsessives started calling their logistics 1000x / day jamming up the whole operation and NS said no more crazy fuckers or we outie

You got 1 more day to Awaiting Carrier Assignment.

Some people have had nightmare wait times at this major stage. Just FYI it looks like for now, there is no major wait as mine went from awaiting carrier assignment to dispatched from factory over 2 days

Production is on schedule. Cannot attest to overseas delivery timelines. Did the dealer confirm that X5s sold in Ireland are built here in the United States?

Wow, just like that, it's at VPC and in-transit. Need to wait until Nov 19 for my PenFed coupon though. So at this point, they can take their time. Lol
