2023 BMW S1000RR  [0.50]
2022 BMW F900XR  [3.00]
2022 BMW X6 40i  [0.50]
2020 BMW M2C  [9.50]
Over the past year I have been following the forum chatter related to used car prices and seeing some folks cashing in. Weird but OK.

Anyway the other day while servicing my X4 M40i and for grins and giggles, I decided to chat w/my CA about it's trade-in value. Well turns out I have a nice bit of equity and with the free service and warranty ended this month, I decided to size up to a X6 40i. Normally, I tend to keep my cars and having owned a E70 V8 out of warranty, I decide to stick w/the I6 and see what B58 is all about. The dealer happened to have an X6 40i on the lot that I was able to take for a test drive. I must say, I purposely downsized from the E70 to the X4 M40i and didn't think I would size up again.

Since there's been a lot of chatter about COVID, options, etc. I thought I'd post some current information about my build and dates to help others. See this thread for MY 2022 X5/X6 Option Casualties.

My Build Timeline
2022,10,01 047 order bank request entered, Priority 1 (Customer Sold)
2022,10,07 047 order bank request entered, Priority 1 (Customer Sold), added Black Extended Merino Leather
2022,10,07 November allocations released
2022,10,08 Dealer did not receive an allocation
2022,10,09 CA traded another dealer for my allocation
2022,10,09 111 order accepted
2022,10,15 112 scheduled for production, build week is 44
2022,10,21 updated build week 47 (11/21-26/2021)
2022,11,05 150 production started
2022,11,17 153 assembly started
2022,11,18 155 production completed
2022,11,18 182 schedule for carrier
2022,11,19 190 in transit to port of exit
2022,11,20 198 at the dealership

These are the initial order status. Typically we are familiar w/the 037 / 047 and 111 but when I read a bit closer and if these statuses are in chronological order it appears that a build week is assigned before the order is accepted. So what's my point? My speculation is that the supply chain and product queue are confirmed at 087 and that once the order hits 111 and NOT 112 or 150 and barring some serious vendor issue occurring after 111 that we can be fairly confident the build will proceed w/o deletion of an option.

0 order deleted by BMW
017 order not specified
037 order is at BMW NA
047 spec. released...
087 production week assigned
097 order sent to AG
100 order deleted by AG
101 error in data transmitted
102 special order (no Prod Week)
105 order out of Prod. Period
111 order accepted at AG

Once the order hits 150 a VIN is assigned and no further changes are accepted. Some have posted that an individual order will lock changes 2 days after 111. My CA said that though locked BMM NA Special Services can still make changes up to 150. What's individual? For the X6 (and X5?) it appears to mean optioning (Ind) Ivory White/Night Blue Extended Merino Leather. Not sure why but the BMW Build Your Own tool has the following warning for all Merino Leather selections. I selected Black Extended Merino Leather and it does not appear to have impacted my timeline. Your mileage may vary.
BMW Individual upholstery requires special consideration. Vehicle production could extend build time up to 10 weeks from date dealer confirms the order. Please discuss this customized vehicle with preferred BMW dealer.

For reference the remaining statuses.
112 Order scheduled for Production.
150 Production Started
151 Body Shop Started
152 Paint Shop Started
153 Assembly Started
155 Production Completed
160 Released to Distribution
168 AG Stock
170 Waiting Workshop
172 Planned for Workshop
174 Workshop Entry
176 Workshop Complete
180 Waiting for Export Dispatch
181 Waiting for Domestic Dispatch
182 Schedule for Carrier
190 In transit to port of exit
191 Returned to BMW AG
193 Arrived at Port of Exit
194 Selected for Shipment
195 Shipped from Port of Exit
196 Shipment Arrival
### VPC prep complete / carrier released (truck not assigned)
198 Dealer arrival / dealer prep complete

That sounds right - Back in 2015 when I was doing an IM build I asked about the allocations and the answer was more / less that the allocations are split up to all the dealerships with draft build dates assigned to production numbers, i.e., here's a hypothetical schedule based on production capacity split up across all the dealerships. Then, once the factory hears back, to your point, they confirm everything and if it's all good the build dates hold - if not, they swap things around with a goal of keeping the throughput consistent.

Per the supply chain, from what I understand, BMW's Spartanburg plant is Foreign Trade Zone, i.e., a free-trade zone (and can therefore operate its own fire, police, etc) and they've connected to Inland Port Greer, which is a 10 minute drive away, itself connected by rail to the deep-water Port of Charleston; BMW set it up, but it's used by all kinds of other companies now too.

In any event, to your point, once the supply chain for that vehicle for that build date is confirmed then hits the upstream production statuses.

Some ideas to pass the time while waiting for your vehicle to arrive.

First create a BMW Connected Drive account. Using the vehicle production number it can be tracked through the build and delivery process. This page explains more about BMW Connected Drive.

It may take 24-48 hours after status=155/182 before these systems update with the vehicle's VIN.

Digital (PDF) Owner's Manual and Navigation / Entertainment / Communication manual

iPhone app(s) - sorry not familiar w/Android but should have the same apps

BMW Driver's Guide - app version of the owner's manual, videos, etc. The above PDFs can be downloaded in the app but looks like they are store in the app?

My BMW - BMW Connected drive app let's you track the location of your vehicle and some systems, e.g. doors locked, windows closed, etc.
Note: functions expire when warranty expires unless subscription renewed. This page explains more about the app.

These are always fun.

The BMW M Laptimer

M Performance Drive Analyser This one is slightly more comprehensive and what I use. They also make a non BMW version, click on developer's name to learn more.

Sorry, I'm an ICE owner so I don't know much about these.

BMW Charging - helps find public fast charging stations.

BMW ChargeForward

Originally, my production date was 11/19, then 11/18 now that it is built, the date was recorded as 11/17 the date assembly started (status=153).

The vehicle was dispatched 11/19 (status=190), it was suppose to arrive at the dealer 11/24, instead it arrived at the dealer this morning 11/20 (status=198). This is the FASTEST I have ever seen a vehicle transported!

My CA is surprised that I made it through the gauntlet w/o any deletes or substitutions hence these reason for these specific pictures.

1. Yes the vehicle is really here.
2. Check it out they didn't substitute 21" wheels with summer tires and you didn't loose the red brakes.
3. and, you have a tow package

Why don’t you just order from a different Bay Area dealer that has an allocation available?

Remember that a dealer is an independent business NOT BMW so an "order" with a dealer is like ordering Michelin tires from Tire Rack: if Tire Rack is out of stock and you need those tires right away, you're better off getting them another Michelin dealer who has Michelins in stock versus waiting around for Tire Rack.

In this case what's happened is your dealer has no allocation, or at least no allocation it wants to give you, thus you have no order with BMW. What you need to do is find a dealer with an allocation for YOU for the vehicle you want. And FYI: it's not just the allocation you need, but also the production week. For example, Dealer A might have an allocation for Week 45 and Dealer B might have an allocation for Week 50; i.e., both dealers have allocations, but Dealer B's will take more than a month longer than Dealer A's. So you have to ask each dealer:

(1.) Do you have an allocation for [your desired model]?
(2.) What is the build week of that allocation?

And once you decide on an allocation slot with a particular dealer, be sure to get the Production Number at the time of the deal. Once you have that, you can go to mygarage.bmwusa.com, input the production number, and validate the config of your vehicle and/or you can call the Genius 1844 number and validate.

In short, your dealer has nothing to sell you because they're "out of stock"; I recommend you call victor at peter pan.

I just placed my order, have a production number and it says "scheduled for production" and dealer said it is an immediate allocation potentially will be finished this month.

How do I confirm my build week and check the more detailed status of my production tracking?

I saw reference to people viewing source code to get more info? Is there a guide on that? I can view source but not sure where to decipher the HTML.

I believe there was also mention of a VIN decoder and site to look something up? I don't yet have a VIN.

Thanks!

Hi cltx5

You can call BMW genius to check your prod week.

Once your orders goes into status 150 "production started", your car will be assigned a VIN and you can track more details:

A good client advisor should give you all that and be able to get that in a matter of seconds.

I called Genius and they said it is currently scheduled for first week of January.

Now to cross fingers for no touchscreen/backup delete and that my dealer can somehow add a trailer hitch to the order before production.

I think the CA/dealer would just tell me to be patient and stop bothering them lol.

'ppreciate your guidance.

Neither of the following 2 are showing up when I checked on my build, so here's to hoping...
- 06UY Deletion of Touchscreen ($500 credit)
- 0ZUY Deletion of Backup Assistant (NC)

Thanks for helping the rest of us technology-challenged folks.

My BMW Garage lists these options/codes but I couldn't find what they were...
  • 0212 Equipment braking system? Trim color? (Couldn't find this one with search)
  • 0992 Number Plate Attachment Management (I asked dealer not to drill/install a front plate bracket - is this what this is?)

The following are NOT listed in my BMW Garage:
  • ZCV Convenience Package (I should have this package but the individual items are above)
  • ZDY Driving Assistance Professional Package (I should have this package but the individual items are above)

  • 0212 Equipment braking system? Trim color? (Couldn't find this one with search)
  • 0992 Number Plate Attachment Management (I asked dealer not to drill/install a front plate bracket - is this what this is?)

S212A ABS discontinued
