My Touchscreen-Delete Car Arrived; Stop-Sale is in Effect

So, my beautiful Phytonic Blue over Cognac X5 xDrive45e touchscreen-delete car arrived at the dealer this afternoon.

I was told several times by both BMW Geniuses and the dealership that there wasn't a stop-sale on it, but only today...once it arrived at the dealership, did they all start saying "Oh, yeah, there's a stop-sale. We can't deliver it until the software is ready on or after November 11."

So either none of them looked very closely, or the stop-sale really didn't appear as visible to them until the car arrived at the dealership and had its status updated accordingly.

Bummer, but it happens.

Either way, multiple other people had the same experience I did (they have the touchscreen delete, but were told there wasn't a stop-sale on their particular car). This is really just a notification to anyone else with a car arriving prior to November 11 that the stop-sale is real and, yes, they will hold your car until then.

In case anyone is wondering, my complete order timeline went something like this:

9/13 - Placed Order
9/14 - Put in Order Bank
9/29 - Order Received/Accepted; Scheduled for Production
10/19 - Production Begins
10/29 - Exterior Body Assembly Begins
10/30 - In the Paint Booth
10/30 - Entering Assembly Line
10/31 - Assembly in Progress
11/1 - Quality Check
11/1 - Final Assembly
11/1 - Ready For Transport
11/1 - Awaiting Carrier Assignment
11/5 - Dispatched From Factory
11/6 - Original estimate was for the car to arrive at the dealer on 11/6. As of Saturday afternoon, the vehicle was placed on a truck, but the truck hadn't yet left. However, I'm told that it left Saturday night at around 9:30 PM
11/8 - At the Dealership

It's worth noting that I am in the South-Central US and that Spartanburg cars coming to my state are placed straight on a truck; they don't travel by train or pass through the distribution center. But there you have it.

Anyway, I will go and see the car in person tomorrow, and take delivery around the 11th or 12th.

I also have a touchscreen I've ordered from a 2019, and just for the sake of it, I'm going to see if it can be installed and how plug-and-play it is (might need coding). I will report back on that when I find out. But unfortunately, the touchscreen is shipping in from China and will likely not be here until late November. If it comes and is undamaged, I will let everyone know where I got it, but I don't feel safe recommending an international distributor until then.

Got the same color combo coming my way very soon! (as I have voiced in these forums - I'm still on fence mostly due to expectations and frustration - on taking but most likely will).

Congratulations - can't wait to hear your report from tomorrow (assuming you can at least see/sit in car) and then later when you take it home and try the screen replacement! You'll be a pioneer here . . .

Congrats! Please let us know how it goes with the touch screen. I am planning to swap it by myself too.

In SC myself and car arrived at the dealership. Stop sale it is. CA sent a few pics over but not sure when it'll be cleared. Given all of the cars affected I'd think the aftermarket world would step in quickly if a retrofit wasn't available. I played with the idrive a few weeks ago and while manageable just not ideal.

The lack of communication from BMW is apparent at the dealer level. Spoke with several over the weekend trying to find a lot car. Most seemed understandable but others were taking advantage of the situation.

Thanks! I didn’t play with it, but in the one I did play with—a pre-touchscreen-delete model on the showroom—it worked just fine.

TBF, the missing touchscreen doesn't affect that from being one good look ride. Grats!

The hope is today, if the software release goes into effect and the techs get on it.

My Sales guy said the software wasn’t available today. Curious if you had heard something different. Are you going to try and negotiate any further then the $500?
