Ordering '24 X5 50e for PCD Delivery - questions..
Met with my sales guy last week - he suggested ordering a X5 50e by the end of April for my desired early September PCD delivery.
Wondering if anyone has any input on this strategy? I feel like I might be trying to thread a needle here... My dealer first told me that they won't do PCD deliveries - a couple of long delay experiences or something. I told them that's the only way I'm buying so they are making an exception. My sense is they have never done many. I think their end of April logic is they want to be sure they have an allocation and then he thinks it'll build in July. He's thinking 6 to 8 weeks to get PCD scheduled. No way we can pick it up early (nor do we want to). What happens if it gets built early and they try and get us to deliver in August? Can they pull it and sell to someone else? Trying to avoid a hassle here. Worst case if they force the issue, I would back out of the vehicle and start over I suppose. I want to take delivery in 2023. Trading in my 45e so ideally I need to do a local deal as I want to trade into the dealer given the sales tax advantage in NY to do so. |

I think PCD is running about a month delay after the vehicle being built. Once the vehicle moves to the Production Begins status, which occurs about two weeks prior to your build date, then you will schedule your PCD delivery. The PC will send a date for your delivery.
Depending on how busy they are you may be able to offer a few dates that work if the original doesn't. If you can't come up with one that works then the vehicle will be shipped to the dealer. I don't think they will hold the vehicle there for too long but don't know the maximum they will.

It is very difficult to time it like that because you won't know the build dates tied to the allocations they would get or what the scheduling is for PCD. As you said though, your best chance will likely be a July allocation which would be for an August build.

Just chatted with my dealer. They have a current allocation that would start production on 7/27/23 - he thinks that may be ready too soon and require an August delivery at PCD vs. my desired mid to late September. His logic is that it'll be built fairly quickly- e.g. within a few days I think he said, and then the PCD crew may not wait as long as I need them to.
Thoughts based on where things are now? He believes they will have an August build allocation soon, but of course who knows. What I don't want to have happen is for the vehicle to be shipped to the dealer and me to miss out on the PCD experience. Appreciate the input. |

I think your CA is correct. It takes less than a day for assembly so even giving a day or so extra for QC delays it would be done over a month before you want PCD. We have not hear lately what the current backup is so that likely means it is not that long. I would wait for the allocations that will be coming out shortly.
