Standard Warranty Transfer Issue

Hi all,

I purchased a 2019 X5 with 9k miles on it from a nonlocal dealer. When i was talking to the finance director, he told me post 2017, the original standard warranty does not automatically transfer to a new owner without cost. He added $20 bucks per month to my payment (60 months total).

Then I got a oil change from my local dealership, the service advisor told me to get that warranty transfer, it should only be a one time $170 fee. Given my interest rate and 60 terms, the present value of that $20 n=60 is still way above $170 dollar. I gave the finance director a call and he's like 'no, thats wrong. whatever. i dont care"...

Is there something I can do about this? Or since I signed on the paper agreeing to pay that, i basically just have to suck this up ?

That's interesting. I've never head of the standard manufacturers warranty not being transferable.

We are talking about a new car bumper to bumper manufacturers warranty, correct? Not a CPO or third party warranty, correct? Last I knew there was no charge because the factory warranty follows the car, not the owner. Its probably too late for you since you signed a contract but you could always contact BMWNA and ask that question and then alert them to the fact that they have a dealer(s?) who is charging for it. You said non local dealer but I am assuming you are referring to a non local BMW dealer, correct?

Finance managers at most dealerships are trash. He probably got you and nothing you can do about it. Did you get your car loan with them? I ask because they are known to add .25%-1% on the rate so they can make commission. Even the GAP insurance for a purchase they mark up. As you can see I've had bad experiences ....

You are talking about included maintenance, not warranty. Maintenance does not transfer for free since 2017, and is now only 3/36k. Warranty is unchanged at 4/50k.
