Hi there-

I've had my X5 for almost three weeks and LOVE the thing. The main disappointment has been the lack of sound and excitement in the cabin during spirted driving. It's extremely quiet and insulated (which I love on the highway).

To my surprise, the "Engine Sound" option wasn't available in the iDrive menu like my previous BMWs. I stumbled across "IconicSounds" in the BMW App store and bought it. WTH? This should be standard. Anyways- for $100, it's 100% worth it. The sound inside the cabin is transformed and it almost feels/sounds like my friend's X5 M50i inside. It rawrs!

Between the IconicSounds, the exhaust flap mod, finding the option to enable the tach in the HUD (lol- didn't think it had this option), and another nameless mod (hehe), this SAV is now amazingly fun while keeping its ability to be quiet and relaxed on the highway.

I highly recommend.

Where did you find this? I've been searching through myBMWApp and cannot find it. From what I've seen, it's only available to EU BMW's? I'd like to check this out as well.

It is available in the US, a number of members have purchased it. It is not however for all vehicles, perhaps just the 22’s and 23’s although I have not looked into it.

This may have been the first positive review of it. I have seen where others have requested a refund as the sound was annoying.

It could be. I have a 2019 X5 xDrive40i and I don't see it as an option.

The fake intake noise does sound better than without, however, it's depressing knowing that it's a feaux growl. I can't imagine paying $100 for it. It would be nice is my V8 actually made these sounds.

$100 sure as hell beats the 4K I paid for the Performance Exhaust parts/install though (but it does sound sweet…). 🤣🤣

I had it for about 3 days, contacted BMW and got it uninstalled and my money back. My teenage kids laughed at it and said it sounded like Days Of Thunder, not a 6-cyl X5. I have to agree, a bit too fakey V-8 sounding.

Regardless, enjoy it if you like it.

Found it, thank you. It sure is tempting. The silence of this thing is driving me nuts but 3.5k to make is sound more appropriate is just not happening. Would be great if someone could post a video from inside with it amplifying the sound under acceleration.

It’s only $100. If you don’t like it, BMW will refund you and remove software from vehicle.

Just be warned, when you get it, you can’t turn it off. It gets louder with each mode, from eco, comfort to sport.

I had it removed after three days it got so annoying in sport mode.

Also be warned. It may not be loud enough. I wish it had sport + to be louder! Couldn’t imagine my X5 without this mod! Love, love, love it.

Bought it and it sounds great. This was exactly what I wanted. Its a v8 sound. Hope the wife likes it since its her car. She will, as is used to driving a turbo explorer with a corsa exhaust.

Just remove the fuse for the electric flap. It’s free and takes minutes. If you don’t like it, put the fuse back in. Fuse 203 put car in launch mode. Wait until flap opens and pull it out. Sounds much better.
