The Porsche looks like it's ass got chopped off. I'm positive it's the most fun to drive since they do ride/handling balance really well and their steering is quite superior to BMW's as well. However, Porsches are stupid expensive and lease terribly due to their high money factors.

Basically besides the X3M all of these scream depreciating money pits to me. X3M or Macan GTS would be my choice.

Btw not sure how that Levante got invited with its circa 2010 interior.

The performance is nowhere near "equal". X6M is much quicker.
Truth. I just test drove a Cayenne Turbo Coupe. While I liked it, it's slower than my F86 so it's definitely slower than the F96. Believe it or not, I might get the Cayenne over the F96....primarily for its off road capability.

Meh. I didn't find the Cayenne Turbo any more fun than my F86. They are pretty similar in that regard.... As for the x3M, I drove a competition model and liked it. However, its interior felt a bit downmarket to me for its 88k price tag.

X3M will depreciate like a rock like all other BMW's. Porsche will have better resale but still heavy depreciation. Better off just buying a regular X5 and an actual sports car, or even just get an E63S/RS6 wagon and have the best of both worlds and better resale due to the rarity.

To add to that, why do people care so much, these are ~5000lb SUV's, will the extra .2 seconds to 60 or 30hp really help out that much when these will ultimately be stuck in traffic and at the school's carpool line, lets be honest, 99% of buyers will not be tracking this in any way sort or form, most would probably be better off buying a regular X5 and spending the extra cash on an actual sports car.

The G05 X5 is so floaty and boring I can't do it. The X3M is a similar MSRP and from what I've read leases similarly as well. The trade off is the unimpressive looking interior in comparison.

Well. Some of us have the actual sports car and want the fast SUV too. It's all about what you like and not always about getting the best "value" for your money.

Yeah exactly. A lot people just like SUVs, have a lot of money, or both. An X3 or X5 are nice cars, but they aren't fun and are extremely common. The M models are appealing based on their exclusivity alone.

That's why the X6 exists in the first place, to be different from the crowd of X5s.

That's the point though. You get the sports car and SUV, each for their dedicated purposes. Why sacrifice both fun and practicality in one package when you could have both excel in what they are meant to do. If you are limited to $80k why not go X3 and Miata/BRZ/Random Used Sports car and maximize the fun and practicality without sacrificing either for one car only and blowing the budget. That's what the wife and I did over an X3M, Macan or GLC63. We did GLC300 for boring but practical stuff and Z4M for weekend fun. This is of course assuming you are limiting your funds... if you have a s**t ton of cash go ahead on the x6m but to argue an X6M as a do it all vehicle in just one package just isn't as good as having separate vehicles with different missions in my opinion.

Fair enough but my motto is that cars are expensive, so you may as well get what you truly like. An X3 30i fulfills the family priorities as well as an X3M, and for most people the extra cost of the M doesn't make sense.

But I speak frequently about my parents' E70 X5 M sport which they sold not too long ago and how much of a damn blast that car was to drive. Unfortunately the two generations of X5 have had their driving dynamics neutered, but that E70 showed me that a family SUV can be fun as well. May as well try and find one that puts a smile on the face.

High performance SUVs are a ton of fun to drive. I test drove the X3M, GLC63s, and Macan Turbo, and they are all really fun vehicles.

Not saying they aren't, they are much better than what SUV's were 20-years ago. I remember when the X5 first came out and changed the game, even have an original X3 in the garage which was far sportier than any SUV on the market at the time, I just don't see the purpose if you have a particular budget to get only an SUV as a do it all vehicle when its fundamentally going to be flawed. If you have the cash to get both a high performance suv and sports car more power to you, I don't see the issue there, but if you only had say $80k to spend on a vehicle(s) or simply have the cash but don't like the idea of spending an excessive amount of money, would you rather have only an X3M, or would you rather have both a regular X3 (or other SUV) and a dedicated sports car like a Miata, BRZ, or other used vehicles, etc, why settle when you can have your cake and eat it too so to speak, but again this is if you are limited by budget. I think they are fun, but for someone like myself who goes to the track often, loves handling and balance, as well as small and nimble vehicles and of course the dying art of stick shift, I don't see myself ever purchasing a high-performance SUV at least not for $80-130k.

I think the X6 looks better than the Cayenne Coupe. I'm a fan of the regular Cayenne but the Coupe version looks kind of small and bland in a Macan type of way.

Also, I would expect nothing less than full leather interior at that price point and the Cayenne lacks that. The interior leaves much to be desired from a car of that price. The X6 delivers all of that for a good amount less with better performance. Only issue is the ride comfort from what I can see.

The X6 M and GLE63(S) are the clear highlights in this segment in my opinion. Every SUV in this space are technical marvels in their own right and offer performance more than most people can handle. But the Cayenne Coupe, like the Q8, don't differentiate too much from the Cayenne and Q7 to warrant the premium - they look nearly identical without looking too closely. The X6 M and GLE Coupe look completely different than the X5 and GLE.

If I'm going to spend the money, I want it to look different than the more-practical SUV these cars are based. The Cayenne Coupe fails in this regard without an already inflated price tag to start.

The Q8 looks very different from the Q7.

There's one real world comparison that's always lost when these auto journalists do similar reviews: price comparison.

The Porsche just beat out the BMW, but the Porsche's as tested price is $27,715 more than BMW. Is the Cayenne Coupe over $27K better than the X6M? Highly doubtful.
The way Porsche charges for their options I'd be surprised if MSRP didn't eclipse $200K once you add the leather vent slats and rear painted model designations.

These test also leave out what factors are the most important to the owner. That can greatly push one ahead of another. Fast is a given so we can get beyond that and get into the design, build quality, tech, luxury features, ride, livability, room, comfort of seats, exhaust sound,etc... The performance pissing match is a juvenile game these reviewers with unknown experience or qualifications like to exploit to sell magazines but none of these Jokers pony up with their own money and that is a huge factor cutting through the BS.
X3M has a horrible ride quality compared to what? a X5, well yeah
compared to F80 M3, nope

I went from a M3 to X3MC and the ride quality is at least as good if not a tad better. I think they based this more on the M3 than SUV for ride. M5 rides better than M3 as well because owners are more likely to want that plush ride.

as far as materials go, of course its lower quality than X5, and its also $45,000 less when fully loaded. Can buy a nice used roadster with that for weekend fun.

GLE Coupe and X6 are very distinctive and would be mistaken as totally different models not related to the GLE and X5. Cayenne (Coupe) and Q7/Q8 you would have to stare at and look for differences.

GLE Coupe and X6 are very distinctive and would be mistaken as totally different models not related to the GLE and X5. Cayenne (Coupe) and Q7/Q8 you would have to stare at and look for differences.
Cayenne Coupe you don't have to stare at if you look at the side and rear end. They only really share the same front end, which could also be said for the Mercedes since the coupe and regular GLE share everything from the A-pillar forward. I don't have a hard time telling the difference between the Q7 and Q8. Q7 is more rounded and almost fat looking (due to its 3-row nature) while Q8 is more angular, modern and squared off (especially up front and rear) with a more athletic profile.

I actually think the Q8 is the most attractive but that's more because I hate hunchbacks. What's the point of getting an SUV if your gonna cut off half the cargo space? Everyone wants to turn their coupes into sedans and their sedans into SUV's.
