The take away is the M Brakes with advanced safety made our $100k X5 seem like a bargain. My wife was amazed. It out performed the other vehicles safety features around us by such a margin it was shocking. Obviously the driver is the biggest safety feature but in a urban area when forced to drive around inferior skill levels, I will take all the added safty edge I can buy.
That’s quite a tale! Did everyone pull over after? Any pictures?

Perhaps it is not the correct nomenclature for the feature.

Here is a video explaining it in a nutshell:

First I'm hearing of the evasion assistance. Is this only included with Driver Assistant Pro or would it also be a part of Plus?

Looks like it is in Pro.
But i am not as familiar with how options are packaged in the US so this is based on the US web site.

I drove that same route week before last myself. You didn’t happen to stay at the Grande Vista did you? When I checked in there was a new X parked directly in front of me that looked like your colors.

It's in Plus as well... the only difference between Plus and Pro is the extended traffic jam assist for limited access highways.

I guess that would have been too much of a coincidence but I really haven’t seen all that many new ones on the road. I was going to ask whoever it was if they posted here but they were gone when I got back out from checkin. I know what you mean about the dirt, I hate letting mine get like that, too. I’m back home and the first thing I did was get it washed.

I haven't seen any new BMW X5 from Pa to Florida. I had a M4 and myself run the left lane together.
At the Grand Floridian, I walked the parking lot looking at what was there. A X3M parked by me. It cost to park here every day, even as a guest of the GF.

So that means it's a standard feature

How does it do this? Is it through the front radar? What if I am driving up a mountain with no side rails?

As is mentions, it will only assist in the action once the driver initiates it and there is a place to go. I'm sure it wouldn't smart enough to stop a person from driving off a cliff but it also may not help them do it if there is no lane/area/shoulder to drive on.

I missed a few questions on this initial thread. My slow speed brake assist does NOT stop the vehicle if you are at parking lot speeds. Many other vehicles have a feature where if you are parking and the sonar senses a object at the last/most closest point, it will auto brake the vehicle to a stop. So far our X5’s doesn’t do this very standard feature. This is very different from what I described in this thread at high speeds.

I just saw this post. Mine can stop automatically if PDC senses an object is to near when reversing or is this not the feature you were referring to?

I deactivated it because it is to intrusive.

Very relevant indeed. Since my 530 with ACC saved me once from running into a traffic jam on the highway I have always selected this option on my new cars to have high speed automatic braking function.

The 2019's in the US do not have the automatic breaking in the PDC. The option to turn it on does not exist, at least the last time I checked but it could have been added in an update.

Wow. SO Glad that you and the family are safe. Usually, I am replying to similar scenario stories with "So sorry to hear about your car's damage. At least you and the family are safe..."

When this technology works, it somehow overrides the occasional annoying technology blips we experience.

Thank you for sharing and truly am GLAD you survived and lived to tell about it.
Cheers,
-Tony
