My car is still in "Awaiting Carrier Assignment"
omasou, damn! your car is at the dealer already? That was really fast. Hopefully mine will show up within the next week or so. When I told my CA that he should be expecting its arrival within the next couple of weeks he was shocked. He did not expect my order which was placed on 10/30 to be finished with production in less than a month. When I told him I also got lucky with the touchscreen deletion he didn't believe me either. After he looked at the build sheet which was missing the $500 credit he was surprised. Said he was delivering an X5 Monday without touchscreen and expected mine to be missing it also. This forum is more in the know than the actual dealerships which is crazy. |

On 11/8 I put a deposit on a 2022 X5 s40i that the dealer ordered. They told me there would not be a touchscreen and that the chip shortages would stretch into 2023. Dealer said delivery would be around Christmas. My car arrived at the dealer on Wednesday along with ~5 other X5s. I visited today and she is gorgeous. Black Sapphire Metallic, Shadowline Trim, and M Sport Red Caliper brakes. Dealer has not called to let me know she is here. That is concerning.
I don't really care about the touchscreen because I am used to the iDrive knob, but I don't want to lose $$ on resale or lose functionality if this is a short term issue. From what I am reading, I could decline this car and order a custom xDrive with same specs and upgraded seats and there is a good chance I would get a touchscreen. I don't know how long a custom build/order would take. So hard to say no, when she is sitting on the lot waiting for me... I would appreciate your thoughts, advice, gut feelings, etc. |

In my opinion, the touchless screen will have little to no effect on resale value.

Ultimately resale values are set (more/less) by giant auctions which ignore options ( more "2022 X5 4.0s are worth blah") and that trickles down to KBB, and used car online shops like Driveway, and certainly to BMW dealerships for trade-in purposes (i.e., they're going to offer equal of less then they can dump into an auction). I'd be pretty stunned if auctions houses of the future give a crap about a month's worth of vehicles w/o touchscreens - seems dubious they'd work that into the calcs ... Maybe 5 years ago when many people sold cars via craig's list or whatever, and price info was more insulated and there weren't any online used car services, back then maybe resale might've been a problem but now giant online companies are more than willing to dollar-cost-average used car sales.

Took delivery of my touch screen delete x5 last week.
the idrive wheel works for like 99.9% of what I want to do, and for online tutorials for "how to do x" I just have to use the wheel to get there. |

just note you usually won't be able to land right on a specific feature and program it, but rather the menu before it. |

Yup, I have a feeling that BMW now has a decent supply of the touchscreens and higher-spec cars will get them (like the F96/6 & Alpinas always did). All speculation of course, but if I wanted to maximize my chances of a touchscreen, I'd go for a higher-spec vehicle, i.e., an M50i or, of course, an X5 M (which isn't that much more & non-comps are still eligible for PenFed -$3250) |
