This. My dealership is probably low volume compared to one other dealership in the system state. I'm guessing I'll find out in April if I get an allocation correct?

Since they evidently aren't able to give you one from this month's allocations then April's, for May production, would be your next chance.

And with custom colors. Even if I get the April allocation I might get idrive 8.5 right?

Maybe, it all depends on when they start rolling it out for the X5 and when yours is built. It is too early to tell.

The press release said 8.5 would roll out in Sept. But was unclear if that was just the upgrade or everything.

Do you happen to know if dealerships get all their allocations for all models once a month? If so, then my dealer should know by now they are not getting a X5 allocation for April.

All allocations have been issued for April production so they would know how many they received. Allocations come out once a month, it has varied a bit but usually the last week of the previous month or the first week of the month. I think it was on the 2nd of this month that they were issued for the X5/X6.

So question. I ordered an individual color. Say I get an allocation next month. Will they build the vehicle and then paint it in 6 months (I hear it adds time). Or will they wait till they can paint the vehicle before they actually start production?

It is painted prior to being built so the production date on the allocation will not apply. They try to batch the Individual colors so it will depend on other orders and their scheduling as to when it is built.

My dealer came clean today. Said they didn’t get an X5 allocation. Larger dealers received them, but only 58 issued nationwide (according to him). My i4 went 112 yesterday for week 14 build (1st week of April). If I get the May build for X5, they could arrive at the same time. At least based on what has been reported here and the i4 Forum.

Got to see this in My Garage today. Good sign....
I wonder why BMW doesn't have the option of adding B&W system to the 50e ...hmm

Congratulations on the order. Not enough of a supply to offer it on all models in all countries.

Curious. Did your dealer say you could order the individual color? What color did you order and did they tell you the cost? My wife wants to change our color and I think my dealer will tell me it is too early to order individual. Curious what you were told? Did they Put your order in the order bank and give you a print out?

Or…anyone else order an individual color? Please chime in with details. Thx

I wish this "conventional wisdom" had proof behind it. It is so often repeated that people take it as a fact.

At this point in 2023, "supply constraints" reads more as a convenient excuse that lets BMW and its product managers off the hook.

Much like offering certain paint on certain trims (which cannot possibly be due to supply) or not offering a feature on certain models, lack of xyz on a given trim is far more likely to be a *product* decision than a supply issue.

On an option like upgraded sound system, I believe that excuse.
Makes no sense to leave money on the table and make it exclusive to certain trims. Its just speakers, not some performance feature or special aesthetic.

Each country probably gets a specific "share" of parts and then they can decide how they want to offer options on their cars. X5/X6 sell at a much higher volume in the US so makes sense that here options like B&W get limited to the top trims.

I would suggest doing some reading, there are still many supply chains that have not normalized.

Of course decisions are made due to marketing, that is always occurring.

Which articles? I live supply chain every day at work, and I have a hard time believing that, today, B&W chips and parts are somehow scarce vs. HK chips and parts.

This seems like the inertia of conventional wisdom to think supply chain is the governing factor.

Then you must be in an insulated industry because there are still major issues in many important supply chains.
