Hi there!

I found your post via the Search function, hoping you can help me.

I have a BMW X5 G05 and one of my biggest concerns in buying the THULE MOTION XT ALPINE box, is that the general rule for the roofboxes is that you should not drive faster than 80MPH / 130KMH.

I regularly do long drives across Germany and my average speed is usually 150-160KMH, if weather and traffic allow of course.

I'm considering the ALPINE version (i.e. more streamlined sporty roofbox of Thule) and only putting in light stuff like clothes, pillows, ... Probably never more than 40-50KG in total (vs the 75KG allowed).

What is your experience with it?

Thank you
M

Hi there, I don't have too much experience with this roof box, I bought it last year in preparation for a long trip that didn't happen (maybe later this year).
I did drive with roof box for about 2-3 weeks to get a feel for it. The box was almost empty as well (so this is pretty much your case) as far as speed goes, I tried to keep it around 80mph but I did do around 90mph few times with no issues but this is still under the limit you mentioning in kmh.

not sure if you Shmee150 fan, look him up on YouTube he just did a trip around Europe in his Ferrari with this roof box on the top you might find a lot of useful info there!

Also I know my particular roof box might have been discontinued and even if its still available somewhere the cross bars might be hard to find, but this is in US, not sure about EU, also there is a newer version of this box out there.

Hope this helps!

just the note, this is exact style grill found on F95 minus the X5M logo/emblem, not the ones found on Amazon, eBay or AliExpress (different style)

one of the first pics with new Samsung S22 phone

Picked it up yesterday and the black double-slat grill is already in!

Now on to mirror covers...
On the Autotecknic website, I see two options for gloss black mirror covers. Are yours the AUTOTECKNIC M-INSPIRED PAINTED MIRROR COVERS or, AUTOTECKNIC M-INSPIRED COMPLETE MIRROR RETROFIT KIT?

winter is finally over, time for some upgrades:

22 inch HRE Vintage, ceramic coated, Pirelli summer tires

side profile

Yellow DRLs, active shutters delete

despite Ben's r33_RGSport help with shutters I'm still getting CEL for now, will be getting BimmerLink tomorrow and we'll go from there.

I have few more upgrades coming, so stay tuned,

Have a great weekend!

One of the sexiest profiles. Super unique wheel choice. You won’t see that on a g05. Well done, sir.

Ballsy wheel choice but I dig it. Looks like you can push the rear wheels out more to make them more flush which step lip wheels require for the perfect look.

Thank you Alan, yes I'm getting mixed reviews this time around but its ok as long as I like it - and I do

I always liked this style of wheels and wanted to come back to gunmetal for awhile now, so I found what I was looking for

as for the fitment, the car on lower (loading) settings plus the lowering links, when car in driving position the wheels are pretty much flush with the fenders.

Really like most everything you have done with your X5.
Except these wheels. Sorry Bro, not feeling it.
But your opinion is the only one that matters.
Enjoy and have a great upcoming driving season.
