HATE the 22” wheel & tire setup — options?

So I’ve had this car for about 2.5 years and I’ve probably replaced 2 tires a year on it, at like $700 a pop. Just not enough sidewall for them to stand up to anything. I’ve never experienced anything like this, including with multiple other M-sport cars.

Just left the tire shop for the second time in 4 weeks (different corner this time at least). Something’s gotta give; I think it’s time to go to a smaller wheel. What’s the smallest wheel I can do with the M-sport brakes? Staggered setup or square? I’m not very knowledgeable about wheel & tire things in general — appreciate any advice I can get.

Your options would be one of the following:
1. 21" staggered setup - 741M
2. 20" square setup - 740M

All available wheel options for the X5 can be found here: https://www.bmwpartspros.com/v-2021-...sparts--wheels

I would recommend going with the 20" square setup as there are many for options for tires than the with the 21" wheels (there are many threads about the limitations of the 21" wheels).

The 20" square style 740M wheels work just fine with the M-sport brakes, I have them on my car.

Being in NY, this is the exact reason I got the 20" 740m. They fit over the M sport brakes and the run flats are nice peace of mind, especially after your experience. Hope it all works out!

New member here with slightly different but related question. I’m getting close to pulling the trigger on a gently used 24’ X5 with everything I’m looking for except for the 22’s which will not work for me in NJ roads/weather. Saw that 20in 740s are going for $900/wheel retail. How easy/difficult is to find these used and sell the 22’s.

Check out originalwheels.com. I bought a set from them for winter and had a great experience. Like new and half the price.
