winter tire wear

What is a “normal” wear for a winter tire after one winter season? Had my Conti VikingContact 7s I had on my Audi that I don’t need anymore since I have my X5 so have them to my brother and they are at 8/32 from 10/32 just last winter - that seems like a lot of wear and doubt they will last past this season at that rate since it seems most winter tires are recommended to get replaced when they drop past 6/32. Anyone else have this issue or is this normal?

I think that's normal especially if driven in mild temperatures and even slightly hard. Their compound is soft and wears down very quickly. Just check specs and you will see that manufacturers are not providing any UTQG data for winter tires. I think about 2-3 winters is normal for winter tires.
