M60i Most Aggressive Stance w/o Suspension Mods

Have been lurking for a while and have read too many threads on wheels and tires to remember. I’m expecting to take delivery of a new order M60i in ~6 weeks so it’s time to ask for help and make a decision 🙏

I’m coming from Jeep land where small wheels and huge tires (37” on 17s) is all the rage.

In this world, I’d like to go the opposite route with less sidewall and more wheel. I’d also like to achieve the widest stance and widest rubber possible without excessive poke, and would like to avoid required suspension mods/any trimming/etc.

Budget can be flexible, maybe in the $5-7k range but can go up if it has to. I’m in Ohio so will need a set of winters - and am thinking of taking care of the winters first then summers.

So, a few basic questions:

1. Can I get away with a very aggressive wheel and just mount different rubber each season? Or do I truly need two sets of wheels?

2. Looks like maybe I can squeeze 23s in (at least for the summers?) based on reading I’ve done here - but I don’t know if this brings a required offset or tire consideration. What’s the biggest wheel that can be done without rubbing or needing any modifications?

3. How wide of a wheel can be pulled off? I do like the planted, wide set look of rubber. I know this is counter to the goal of winters.

Then, a more general question - any recommendations for a winter setup in the ~$5k-7k range (can go up if needed) that gets me a decent winter tire (I drive very low mileage but still want a safe option for when the wife uses the vehicle for slightly longer
commutes) while also not compromising on aesthetics (wheel size, aggressive stance, wide tire)?

Not the answer you’re looking for but I stick with BMW oem wheel sizes and offsets.

I went with the BMW 22" 742M wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires in stock 275 and 315 sizes.

Also consider 747M staggered with 275/35 up front and 325/30 at the rear. These are OEM and give that “stance” look. I live near Seattle and need at least All Season for weekend ski trips. I got the Pirelli P Xero All Seasons (the ones designed for Bentley with noise cancelling PCNS). My M60i came with summer tires and I’ve decided to keep them and just rotate ~March and ~November.

Thanks all, this is super helpful so far.

I’m thinking of sticking with the 742 full blacks that are on my order, putting winter rubbers on those (Scorpion Winter 2 in the 275/35R22 front and 315/30R22 backs).

This lets me use a “perfectly good, acceptable” wheel for my winters and then I’ll get something I’m really excited about for summers.

I still need to understand the maximum wheel widths for the summer set (thinking I can start with the stock rubber that comes off the 742s) - and how to achieve appropriate concave.

I see staggered setups like 9.5/11, even 10.5/12… and then get lost in the offset space.

1. You can absolutely have a separate, aggressive wheel set up and just switch the rubber, if you plan on keeping the OEM sizes of 275/35R22 and 315/30R22. The 35 and 30 profile is "thick" enough whereby you can get away with 10.5" width up front and 11.5" in the rear.

2. You can run 23" as dubsesd is with his set of BC Forged wheels, but you will find two hurdles: availability of 23" tire options with the 25 aspect ratio in the US. Dubsesd is running 315/25R23 all around, which definitely limits your width options, not to mention a more jarring ride. I've found it difficult to source that size tire. I don't think other sizes are available. The second issue is the load rating on such thin tires - it's lower than the OEM size 22" tires, so you need to be conscious of the gross weight of the car, and factor in additional, maximum weight scenarios (e.g. 5 people in the car with luggage in the trunk). If the total weight exceeds the load rating per tire x4, then that will be a safety issue. But aesthetically, 23" wheels with a 25 aspect ratio is the sweet spot. Not for the faint of heart.

3. Widest I've seen on this forum is 11" width in the front and 12" width in the rear (not from the same set up). Retaining the 315/30R22 OEM rear size on a 12" width wheel will give you noticeable stretch.

Do you like the 325/30 over the 315/30?
