I've been shopping for all season tires for my 2021 BMW X5 M50i and I've noticed the OE tires that BMW offers only has Summer or Winter tires (Pirelli Pzero PZ4 LUXURY or Continental PremiumContact 6) and no All-Season options.

It's recommended that you don't drive the summer tires below 45F temp or drive the winter tires in warm weather. Not sure if the recommendation is BS but I try to follow to the spec requirements.

Even though I live in LA, I drive to the mountains to go skiing. I usually go to Oregon for a month to stay at my cabin and ski and I need a capable tire through out any winter conditions. I currently have the Nitto NT420v and I haven't driven them in snow yet.

Thoughts??

If you have the staggered 22" rims like I do on my 2024 X6 M60i, suggest you look at the Nitto NT420Vs as there are very few tire options with the staggered arrangement of 275/35/22 front and 315/30/22 back. Caution that there is very limited national inventory so order fast!

Yea what’s ur rim size ?

I have 21s I went with NON OEM size of 275/45/21 and 315/40/21 it’s very close on Michelin Primacy All Season diameter the difference is 0.1”

Others have done the same. I haven’t had any issues.

@pabeachbums - I have staggered Front 275/35R22, Rear 315/30R22 (M+S). I suppose these are the only thing on the market. Otherwise, I could just get the OE Pirelli
Pzero PZ4 (LUXURY) / Summer tire and ride them in the snow. Just need good impressions on the tire.

Can you? Or, should you? The simple answer is — no you shouldn't. Summer performance tires are simply not designed for near- or below-freezing temperatures. Here's a quick explanation of why.

Summer performance tires feature tread rubber compounds engineered to provide traction in warm to hot temperatures only. As temperatures drop into the 40s, a summer performance tire's tread compound changes from a pliable elastic to an inflexible plastic, drastically reducing traction capabilities. The tire industry calls this process the "glass transition." And, without traction, your vehicle will have a hard time staying on the road!

In fact, should summer performance tires even be exposed to near- or below-freezing temperatures, tread compound cracking or tread block chipping can occur. Once a tire has been damaged in this way, it will need to be replaced. And, as both types of damage only occur as the result of improper use or storage, they will not typically be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

This has been the most frustrating part of my shopping experience so far. Here in Southern California, there are ZERO optioned in Brooklyn Grey with M sport package with 20 inch wheels. They are all 21.

Talked to Discount/ America's tires about options for the 21s, and there is ONE all season option, thats it.

Dealers really unwilling to work on wheel swaps as well. Its frustrating.

Have a feeling that I might really regret the 21s if I want to take this thing anywhere other than pavement.

Thanks for the information. I may have to get snow socks or chains. which might be another thread to talk about snow socks vs chains and which brands are the best.

Here in New Mexico, the dealer offers 3 tires, each is All Season: Bridgestone Alenza, CrossContact LX Sport SSR, and Michelin Primacy MXM4 ZPXL.

Unfortunately, all run flats, but we may change that for the next round of new tires.

For what it's worth, I put 29540/21 Alenzas on my X5, what a great tire they've been. 8,000 miles worth so far, don't even look worn and we had one of our biggest winters in 2022-23, worked perfectly and now i don't have the stupid staggered sized tires any longer!

We drove through last winter on half worn continentals in Chicago. It was manageable. The car does a great job managing available traction.. Pay attention, slow down, leave more space between cars and we made it through. Replaced them a few weeks ago because the rears were almost at wear bars.

I would have to buy new rims for the rear to not have staggered tires. But I see your solution my quandary.
