Why is the X5 xDrive40i offered with 22" wheels, but not the X5 xDrive50e?

When you go to https://bmwusa.com and click on "Build Your Own", with the X5 xDrive40i, you can choose 22" wheels.

With the more expensive X5 xDrive50e, you can't (21" is the largest).

Why is this?

This has been asked manytime for 45e. It is simply because 45e/50e don't have room for spare, so tire must be RFT. 22" OEM size tires don't come in RFT, not yet.

Thanks, eelnoraa. While that's disappointing, it makes sense, and regardless, I really appreciate your response giving me precisely the information I was looking for. Thanks!!

Frustrating part is that for other markets than the US, BMW installs 22'' wheels on 50e (non-runflats).

Question is whether there are any markets apart from the US and maybe Canada where 22" are not available on 50e. Definitely you can get 22" on 50e in Europe.

For the US market, I wonder if it also has to do with the added 22” tire / wheel weight and if having it on won’t meet the EV range or MPGe range from the factory.
