Some background and what I posted in another Thread regarding performance of EV Mode (save me from rewriting lol):
Last year this time, I was about to pull the trigger on a 45e for my wife. We were excited to slowly transition from ICE to PHEV/BEV (I should start by saying I am a huge BMW fanboi and we have had many X5s over the years from diesel to X5M). I had and an allocation and a relatively strong deal, but when we test drove the 45e we were sadly underwhelmed. Our intention with the 45e was to run it in EV mode as much as possible; however, the performance in pure EV mode was anemic IMHO. Of course we were looking at it wrong in thinking that in EV mode it would drive/feel like a BEV, which obviously it isn’t. Nevertheless, given our reaction, and the fact that we were installing a L2 charger, we decided to just dive right in and get a BEV…an ID.4 of all things!! The vdub has been great, but we sorta miss having an X5, and the LCI 50e has caught my eye (MSport, Brooklyn gray/cognac, 741M, yummy!!). We became so addicted with the BEV performance, that a few months after taking delivery of the ID.4, I traded in my M4Cx for an i4 M50! Which brings us to now. Despite the increase in performance with the 50e, I’m worried we will feel the same way about the driving experience in EV mode as we did last year with the 45e, especially after drinking the kool-aid over the past year and driving only BEV. We are scheduled to test drive a 50e tomorrow (and an ix50 for that matter—strong lease deals, but fugly as hell), so certainly that will help in our decision making. I have a solid deal once again on a 50e, and an allocation ready to go, but at the 11th hour, I’m anxious we aren’t going to be impressed enough to pull the trigger. Obviously only we can decide for ourselves, but I like reading about owners’ experiences, bearing in mind the potential bias in a car forum lol. So we test drove the X5 50e this afternoon, and let’s just say, afterwards, we told the dealer there was no need to test drive the ix!! Lol Honestly, the 50e was impressive in pure EV Mode, when compared to our experience from last year’s test drive of the 45e. We took the 50e on a pretty extended test drive and it never seemed underpowered when compared to our BEV ID.4. Now obviously, we can’t drive the 50e like we stole it in pure EV Mode, and make the most out of the limited range (something you don’t need to concern yourself with a BEV), but again, I really was impressed! About to place an order, but my wife fell in love with the Manhattan Green Metallic LCI, whereas noted above, I was all set on Brooklyn Grey. Not sure how this will pan out, or why I’m not crazy about Manhattan Green. I’m sorta learning toward Skyscraper Grey as a compromise, but that reminds me too much of our previous Silver Grey from years ago (which isn’t a bad thing), but I just love Brooklyn Grey. She also isn’t crazy about the fine line black trim that I prefer, so who knows where this will end up. Yes, it’s her car, but honestly, she could not care less about what she drives, and she isn’t looking forward to paying money when her ID.4 suits her just fine. But I’m the car nut!!

I think 0-30mph acceleration is plenty strong in EV mode for 50e, definitely not behave like 200hp car. 30-60mph are more mild in EV mode but plenty powerful when ICE is brought up.
iX 50e is actually in another league. It provide a LOT of power, but it would be very rare to have opportunity to unleash that power... |

I’m enjoying my i4 M50 for the time being. That is until the LCI M3Cx arrives or wait a little longer until the M2CS…but the longer you get use to BEV, the harder it seems to go back to ICE

Very nice. I wish I had been able to test drive the X5 50e before ordering, but alas the dealer had none that were not already sold. I did drive the xdrive40i so at least I knew how it felt as an ICE vehicle.
I had a Tesla Model S P100DL (Plaid predecessor) so I know all about BEV performance! However, I decided the PHEV was right for me at this time. Hoping for production week 36 or 37. Also hoping they have most of bugs worked out! |

Yes, your spec is very similar to how we would order (not sure your interior wood trim however). However, I’m sorry to read about the problems you are experiencing with road noise. I hope you get it sorted out soon.

The X5 50e we test drove today had the 20” 740M wheels; 275/45/20 all season rft tires installed. We plan to order the 21” 741M 275/40/21; 315/35/21 rft summer for our X5 50e. I will either swap out the rubber at delivery for non-rft all seasons, or be on the look out for a nice take off set of 740M for winter use.

So, “my” 50e is really my wife’s car. I sold my F10 550i xdrive in order to take over her F15. We struggled with color for weeks. I thought for sure we would choose the blue ridge but when seen in person we really did not fall in love. Then we sort of liked the Manhattan green but we’re afraid it would not age well. We really wanted Tanzanite blue, but it was not available in the 50e. So, it was down to white or Carbon Black. Our F15 is white, so we were familiar. But, my face always lit up when I saw Carbon Black, so my wife said let’s get that. Pre-conditioning was the only reason she would agree. We love it! Now I see blue is an available color…dang it.
Enjoyed reading Op’s story and can relate. I am totally satisfied with EV only power and rarely use the ICE. I think our overall mpg is above 2000 mpg. Once we got the X5 home from PCD we have never fueled up since June 30 and used maybe 3 gallons in 1.5 months….wow! This vehicle is amazing. Now if I could just keep it out of BMW’s service bay…. I had the 45e, and now the 50e.
At the time, the 45e impressed me in electric mode, but the 50e is on a whole different level. Some will disagree, but the 50e's powertrain is worth the upgrade alone. As for color...choose something that will make a happy household. |

Do mean bc of your unfortunate car accident, or are you experiencing other 50e issues as well?

Hey Kief, not surprising to see you here Still have your F80 in the garage.
Manhattan Green is wonderful in person. It’s the color that convinced me a G05 would be my next car. Seeing Carbon Black made me unable to wait, and after an exhaustive search, had to compromise on a lightly used mineral white 40i. Bought it in March after thinking I’d get a 45e for a while but not liking the range, and while the 50e seemed promising, the price difference didn’t make sense for me. I’m currently on 742s with Conti summers, and will need a winter set before it gets cold. Any opinions on 742s with winter tires? |

Both. CEL is on again. But, waiting for parts to get accident damage repaired, then back to dealer for CEL. The accident damage is not severe, so driving it while waiting for parts. But, the repair estimate is $6K

My wife and I just “settled” on Skyscraper Grey, don’t make me now question her preferred Manhattan Green color!! For some reason, I just don’t like the brown in Manhattan when overcasted. Conversely, I don’t mind the brown/gold in my Dravit Grey i4 M50, so go figure. As for a 742M winter setup, you missed out on mine from a couple years ago that I was selling from my X5 M50i. Those bad boys looked awesome and were steamrollers. I don’t recall them seeing much snow, but there’s a few G05 members that have the ballz to roll with them. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1700976
