Can’t close tailgate from button on the door?

I’ve been able to open the tailgate from the driver’s door on the button, but can’t close it. I’ve checked and there is no setting for that.

Is this fixable?

Just a friendly guess but are you holding the button down?

Haven't tried it yet, but supposedly it can be done via Bimmercode.

On a similar note, I don't believe you can close the tailgate with the remote either????

It can be coded.
Not sure about Bimmercode, but it does work using E-Sys.
I have done a few G05 X5 and G07 X7 already.

I used Bimmercode and coded my tailgate control to close from the door button and key remote.

That is very valuable to me as there is many times I open the rear gate for my wife/kids only to have them not need to get in there. This is especially true on vacation.

In the UK it closes....on door switch pull it towards you and hold. On key, hold it down.

Pull and hold the button to close it. Make sure the key is in the vehicle. You'll hear it beep when it starts to close. You don't need coding to close it from the door (keyfob you'll need it if US though)

At first, I thought I couldn't close mine from the inside button by the driver, but I had my key in my door handle pocket and my door was open.

I’ve tried that, key is always in the car. The button GOES down, but doesn’t close the tailgate. Apparently pushing it down has NO function at all. Frustrating

I’ll try again. I believe I’ve tried it both with the driver door open and closed. But I always have the key with me if I’m in the car.

Yes, see my reply above. I’ve tried that several times.

Honestly I try not to post dumb-as-a-box-o-rocks questions before I’ve made every attempt to figure it out.

Sometimes successful, sometimes not so much.

I think US cars are coded to disable closing with the door switch. Bimmercode will allow activation with just one pull no need to hold it up. Same thing with the remote.

Then that would be the problem. In order to close the tailgate you need to pull the button up and not push it down.

I too can open and close the tailgate with the button on the driver's side door. No coding required.

Think about it as a window button. It's counterintuitive in this case. To open, push it down. To close, pull up. Just like a window. And of course you have to be in park but it will tell you that if you're in gear

You need to pull up and hold. Don't press it—that opens it.

It works for me.

Pull up to close, push down to open. A bit counter intuitive...

Though it is irritating that it opens by pressing the button and leaving it, but to close it you have to pull the button up and hold it till it closes fully.

Any trick to solve that?
