IMO, the F15 design in M version (especially M50d design) is great, almost timeless.
Not sure I am convinced by the new one and these huge kidney grills. Rear is OK. Interior is great, but F15 interior with M steering and individual leather is good too. As for digital gauges with maps and everything, this is a huge step up (and catch up) and very successfully made. Still love the F15 design, see below (thanks to Atomic80 for this pic of his car) |

So to me this is very evolutionary and not revolutionary. I think they did a good job with taking the best design of the M Sport and making some things nicer in the interior.
My only problem is the rear. To me it looks straight Mercedes. That doesnt mean it looks bad, just a copy. I know this is their X6 competition but the lights and the diffuser looks damn close.

I like the new design except the rear tail lights which are not very aggressive and are not distinctly BMW "L" shaped. That's a shame, it looks generic like a Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia.
What I don't get with BMW now is that there is no consistency in design language across models. I love that each model is unique, instead of repeating the same design in different sizes like Audi or Mercedes for example, but for me there should be some kind of consistency so the car is immediately recognizable as a BMW. For example, some of the new cars have the headlights joining the grill (M5, X7), others don't (M2, X4, X5). Some cars have the round smaller grill (M2, M5, X4), others have the huge angular grill (X5, X7,), others even have an angular upside down grill (X2), and some a regular sized but angular grill (M2C). Some grills are joined together in the center (X5, M2COMP), others are not joined (X2, X4, M5, M2). Some have L shaped rear tailights (M5), others don't (X5). The interiors are also different, I thought the M5s interior was the new design language such as seen in the X3 also, but now the X5 has different vents which we've seen also in the next 3 series prototypes, etc. The image or brand recognition of a BMW is diluting with all these disparities across their models. |

Really like the new X5 interior. Can't wait to see one in person.

Owned 2 E70 and 3 F15, current 2018 x5d:
- Front of F15 much nicer - Side profile g05 much more interesting - Rear F15 better. G05 rear looks generic German (Merc or Audi). Oh, and the fake huge (assuming plastic) rectangular exhaust is so Hyundai. Have to see interior to form my opinion. Either gimmicky or lore luxurious, hard to tell quality and execution of interior from pictures. |

More I think about it the more I like it... the big grill definitely distinguish it from old and other models now... in the last 3 years my area got flooded with new and many old bmw's lot's of old x5's around... one short city block no kidding had 6 X3's and 2 X5's yesterday when I went out for a walk... so I hope leasing on these will be decent next summer when we going looking...

Ok I found out what I can't stand on the front.. too large kidney grilles and sides air intakes.
I gave a shot and tried to change it a bit to see if it can improve things. It suits me better but I let you juge .. |

need it in black with black grilles in order to compensate with the hideous hugeness of the grilles. why do they have to be this huge you are not Audi, BMW and you cannot pull it off please do not push it this hard. and the rear is nice but a little boring though if the inner taillights were to be turned upside down they would make the rear more like a traditional BMW which would be better imo. for the interior though it is really beautiful. in general I believe we need to get used to grilles and merc gle coupe/fiat 124 spiderish taillights (which look good, only don't look original in any means), but the grilles.........

GLC resemblance.. roundy mushy economy car tail lights. No character. not ugly, just boring. Front, of course, looks unfocused. The unsightly and large grills, in particular, have you asking, "Why?" How on earth does the board approve this. The interior is very nice. Seems to be consensus here.

Also check out Vince Burlapp's comments on the new X5. He has an interesting blog. Been reading his blog for about 15+ years easily now. Old school. His comments are usually spot on.
"Again, the new X5 is really nothing new. Just a weirder more cartoony version of the previous one. Not it's just awkward from pretty much every angle. And that grille keeps getting bigger and bigger. Again, there is tons of silver trim inside. Surrounding every single shape. Nothing subtle or classy here. But nothing special either since these are everywhere. Who buys these???"

seriously? X5 looks 10000000x better than that pos durango and not even close to resembling each other.
Some of y'alls eyes are terrible and have no idea how car design works. most of the design things in the front are more aero oriented and air/brake air routing than anything. God almighty.. The f15 is terrible, the front is ok, the side looks like a slightly rounder version of an e70 and the ass end of the car looks bloated, it looks like the whole car ate too much pasta compared to the more lean e70. This G06 looks like it leaned out and started eating more lean meat. Just better overall and it's not close. |

I think the F15 looks great. I took a wild guess that you own an E70 when I read your negative comment about the F15. No surprise there. I'm glad you love your car. |
