You may have to salvage the male mate from any older BMW blower motor resistors or wiring harnesses.

Here is one on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/p/1517885072?iid=162496383576

But your local junk yard probably has plenty - its a common part over decades of BMWs it seems.

Did a little more digging and this connector has been used since 1988 in BMWs.

I tried the part number on realoem and got a lot of hits. See attached pic. However the list almost always shows a female socket or male connector pin with cable associated with the part.

The male one seems to be 61130007452 see pic. At $2.32 it maybe worth ordering one to see if its indeed the male mate for the female connector though availability seems limited?
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/61130007452/

The plug housing seems to be common for male or female if I am reading realoem right.

I actually found the housing on ecs.. Here's the link

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/61131378133/

Also I called ecs and they didn't know what's up with it.. so I'll order them and see how it works.

UPDATE: I tried to buy it on Pelican parts but it says it's out of stock too. We're just SOL for getting this connector. I've decided to just splice in a four wire trailer connector using these posi–taps. Has anyone used them before? Would they be able to handle the current in these controller wires?

Great find on the housing! You are right its not available in the usual channels but seems to be available via eBay and from EU sites but dang it is expensive at ~$20 for $0.02 worth of nylon!! The male pins that go into this housing I mentioned in earlier post are available on eBay as a 4 wire bundle for $23 so maybe worth just using them to insert into the female connector and taping the whole mess up rather than tap into the factory harness.

Seems like its a common part between Porsche and BMW! This site has the housing and pins but wont ship to the US. https://www.ebay.de/itm/Reparatursat...-/163885596693

But using their Porsche cross reference p/n, you can buy the housing from ECS for $2.10 https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...g/99965275840/
or from Porsche of Lehigh for $1.47! https://parts.porschelehighvalley.co...ng-99965275840

I think you will still need the 4 pin & wire bundle I linked to earlier to complete everything.

Nice work my friend. It looks like fcp euro is the cheapest place to get the wires.

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...mm–61130007452

I'm probably going to check with the local Porsche dealer here tomorrow for the housing then I'm gonna get these things ordered.. and cross my fingers.

Newb here with a brand new X6 just delivered and a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I’ve been towing my boat (roughly 5,000 lbs between boat, trailer, and fluids) with for 5 years. I’ve never needed any add on trailer brake controller on my Jeep. Is that because this is already integrated in my Jeep, or is this just because the boat trailer has surge brakes?

One trailer dealer looked at my X6 with the factory tow package and said I didnt need anything else to tow a car hauler trailer because it had the 7-pin connector. My BMW shop said the same thing. This thread sure makes it obvious that I do need the non-integrated (separate) brake controller.

Someone please check me on this. Does no truck/SUV manufacturer integrate this controller, or is it just the luxury brands like BMW that don’t think we’ll really tow something close to max rating?

Surge brakes on your boat trailer.

Electric brakes require controllers. Some trucks and SUVs have them integrated, but it's very obvious when they do. It's a module, generally on the dashboard, that enables adjustability.

OK here's an update. I finally got the connector in today and got the cable put together.. it works perfect! I ended up ordering the connector from my local Porsche dealer for about $3 with shipping. The plugs I bought from getbmwparts.com and they were about $25 for 5 of them.

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...le–61130007452

The controller itself is a Prodigy P2 I got for $40 on offerup.

I also ordered a 25' trailer wire cable, Reese controller plug and braided sleeve from Amazon.

All in I spent about $100 for this which is much better than the $240 or whatever BMW charges

How does that work?? The female is the side that is in the car. It's the male side connector that the controller needs.

All the P/N's I had originally listed were for the empty housing and male pins. I am also confused re: the last photo as its for a female connector.

Do you guys have any pictures of where you put the controller and the activation buttons?

I have a redarc controller from my old X5 and i'm curious where to put it.

Sorry I should have made it clear this is just an extension to allow me to place the brake controller further away, in the centre of the console. I move it between vehicles so wanted the flexibility.

Was it easy to install? Did the X5 retain the ability to change the dynamics when the trailer is connected as well as the rear camera view?

How did this all work out? Have you towed with it yet and confirmed this wire is activating the brakes? Where did you install the controller? I am considering putting it in the center console next to phone charger; do you think it will fit under the lid?

Got my 2019 last week. (Used). Installed my Redarc brake controller and put the remote in the cubby to the left of the steering wheel. The Redarc controller is significantly smaller so it makes it easy to do.

Towed 5500# this weekend. Probably 300 miles. Vehicle and brake controller worked great. Gain works as it should, manual activation and brakes lights worked good.

I towed my friends trailer just to verify and everything worked fine. A for mounting spots I just put some Velcro above the gas pedal to mount when I need it. It's not permanently installed.. I'm just gonna run it up when I tow.

See if this pic helps, it's way up out of sight on the left side. My brake controller is already plugged in here. (Be advised the wires are not the correct order don't copy me )
