Are they changing the M50 exhaust in the US?

Seems with Euro regulation, they are making exhausts' notes "milder". For example, the 3 series 2021 does not make the pops and crackes the 2020 does.

Any changes for the X5 and X6? Especially the M50 and X6?

Any alternatives as a mod?

These are performance oriented vehicles and should sound that way.
Why do the Europeans have to be such pricks about everything. Who cares about their damn carbon counting BS and now they want everyones vehicle to sound like a Toyota.
My '21 M50i sounds OK in Sport but really needs more volume. It appears that there are some meat eaters here who addressed this with good results. A V8 should sound like one.

1+ the regulations in the EU are getting so stringent that the car manufacturer can't fulfill those. The results are manipulated software and one scandal after the other. A V8 sounds now like a Prius. We even have a special police task force to control vehicles which might be somehow modified and not in accordance with the road law. Even Ferarri, Lambo and so on. "your car is too loud"........

"Special police task force" to control exhaust sound levels. Unbelievable.
What a stupid waste of law enforcement resources.

Im truly surprised the EU still allows companies to make 500+ HP engines considering there is no real need for them.

I can totally see the EU implementing some regulation saying maximum 250 HP output to reduce emissions even more.

The EU really wants to eliminate any fuel burning engines.

Yes, they have been reducing sound levels since software 03/2020, a clear difference in my MY19 X5 50i after the update. My friend test drove a M340i 2020 with burbles, loved it, ordered a 2021 and it came quiet as hell. Dealership played dumb and said there was no difference but they're not there.

What is wrong with a powerful V8 or V12 having a great sound. There are millions of people worldwide who enjoy the sounds of these vehicles whether the wing tip shoe wearing, brief case carrying, weasels of the world like it or not.
The bark of my HD Wide Glide with a blueprinted 121" motor would probably make you cry.

Agreed, you should have the choice if you'd like to get a better sounding car by paying more for it.

An Inline 4/6 will NEVER sound as good as a nice V8. That's engine AND exhaust.

It doesn't matter if an I6 comes in a 150k "supercar", it will just not be the same. Yes, you can make it loud, but it will not sound as good. You can make anything loud.

There's a reason that even the F1 drivers yearn for the older cars with the bigger engines - even if the new ones are faster.

Right with you on this subject. 4 or 6 cylinder engines just don't ever sound as healthy as a V8 regardless of how creative the exhaust system is.
Look how Porsche dropped the ball with their late model 718(base and S models). 2.0L and 2.5L 4 cylinder puss motors that sound like an old Ford farm tractor. Sales went right into the toilet and they responded with a N/A, 4.0L, 6 cylinder engines in both the Cayman and Boxster that sound damn good and are in high demand.
The sports/performance car enthusiasts along with many car guys in general do not need the AOCs of the world and carbon counting tree huggers determining what we get when we pay our hard earned cash and taxes for a vehicle.

It's still slow as fuck...no matter how loud it is, why should I cry?

Btw...I own 3 BMW V8 plus a 350 El Camino but care about nature as European.

I'm glad US is getting back on the road!!!

It's maybe loud but still slow... same as all Hellcat's for example...
A F90 M5 is smoking the demon all day long with less horsepower...but hey, the demon is louder.

Bigger is not always better... and louder is not faster.

Wow, amazing.
Did you figure this out all by yourself?

I think LOW4LYF missed the forums. Tesla page is here https://forums.tesla.com/.

You will not be able to tell a difference between a 3.5 and a 4.0 0-60, but you will definitely be able to tell a nice V8 from a crappy I6. Sound delivers more pleasure than a .5 0-60 or quarter mile improvement. An M5 may be faster, but will never sound as good as a Hellcat. If all you care about 1/4 times, why not just get a motorcycle?

You are correct, guys like him don't get it at all, they know what they read in car rags.
The rich sound of potent V8 is very desirable to the majority of car guys unless they are members of the "peace and quite" squad which has a presence here.
This is why I still like the Mustang GTs, good looks, available manual, and a V8 sound to die for, not the fastest car by any means but an absolute ball to drive with a 4 level variable exhaust note.
You can always tell by these threads who the guys are who wear ear protection when they cut their grass.

My crappy S38 I6 engine sounds better as any other BMW V8 turbo charged engine.

This explains your obvious anger here. No need to be jealous.

The S38 is a great engine as we all know but it falls short of the current R63 on every level including sound. It is what it is my Man.

Agreed, sounds like you need a Civic and are not a true BMW enthusiast..

Currently have 2 BMWs and have had a total of 9. I think we know who the child here is.
