X5 wider than X7?

My wife is concerned about the width of the G05 (too late now really but hey ho) and whilst I am trying to reassure her, all the info I can find online suggests it is wider than a Range Rover and even the X7..? The Panamera is already huge and this is wider still?!

Has anyone in Europe especially found it to be too wide in car parks etc? I can then quote this forum as evidence that she should not be concerned

yes the X5 is wide but it's a trivial amount. X7 is 78.7in wide, X5 is 78.9in wide. I would tell her they're the same because 0.2in means nothing for the width

Wow that's incredible it's actually wider than an X7. I'm sure it will be manageable of course but a stat is a stat.

It's meaningless and not incredible by any means. There are many factors to consider that could cause the negligible 0.2" difference. In this case the number should not be looked at

It's noticeably wider than the last generation, not really sure why BMW enlarged it since the interior room seems the same but you definitely know it's a bigger vehicle if you had the previous generation. That said you get used to the size after driving it for a while but i would have preferred it a bit smaller. It's a nice upgrade overall though.

How do I find the width of an F15, e.g. 2105 50i X5? I ask because my wife has complained about getting the G05 into our garage.

I drove a few hours yesterday in my F15 35i w DHP to the dealer to pick up my G05 40i. So I got to drive the same route home. I'm going to post a complete "first impressions" later, but it feels like a bigger vehicle. Hard to explain.

Should the same as a 2018 I think.

here's the F15 (left) vs G05 (right)

Length:193.2 in 193.77 in
Width 76.3 in 78.89 in
Height:69.4 in 68.7 in
Wheelbase: be115.5 in 117.1 in

They increased the length but the legroom is lacking in the X5. Not good.

yeah it increased a massive 0.57in... so much room was lost!

edit: for the record I don't have an issue with the X5's size because it's fine as is. German cars are historically smaller inside than their American or Asian counterparts. As an engineer small difference can make or break a design but here is don't see any cause for concern or even to mention it since a variety of items can cause the difference.

I am 6’2” and 200lbs. The X5 seems roomy to me. The front seats are big. How much room do you need? I am sure the Bentayga has less room than a Suburban but does any Bentayga owner care? If you need a roomy people hauler there are better more affordable choices out there.

The 2.5" addition in width is noticeable when driving. The length only increased .5" but the wheelbase increased 1.6" so you would think that would have equated to more legroom but it didn't.
Like I said above the additional width is noticeable when driving and my garage is a bit tighter now but overall it's a big upgrade over the previous model.

I never had an F15, I did drive one as a loaner for a total of 5 weeks (3 weeks straight once) and I never thought it drive well. Compared to my X3 it was like being in a boat that rolled through corners like it was lost. The 2 G05s I've driven feel more nimble (both were 40's one M Sport the other a X line) than the out going model. Maybe it depends on how you drive?

I'm about the same size. I feel like the front is roomier than the F15 I turned in yesterday.
However....I tried to sit in the back BEHIND the driver seat as it was set for my 6'1 frame. I'll admit, I never sat in the backseat
of the F15 with the same setting....only with my wife or daughter driving on a very rare occasion. But I'll admit, it's not comfortable for a taller
guy back there. My knees didn't touch the back of the driver seat, but it was close and no way to stretch out. So I do feel bad for the folks
in the backseat behind me. Good thing it's MY CAR and I rarely have adult males behind me.:

Welcome to a forum, where I am allowed an opinion. I do think it is incredible the smaller X5 is FACTUALLY wider than the X7. I didn't say that 0.2 inches was a big deal but it seems the car is wider.

You have a great day.

Chris - I agree, it is a little mental and not meaningless that the X5 is wider than its bigger brother when we dismissed the X7 because of its size. It means more scraped alloys in car parks and more breathing in when leaving the car (I am not a big guy). The Americans need to understand that our country is on a smaller scale - so these small margins make a difference in day to day life.

It is what it is - car is on its way, but if I had known the X5 was the same width as the X7 I may have changed my order. Although the X7 is slower and doesn't look great in pictures...so who knows!

The X5 looks wider being lower and a bit wider. Certainly more planted and aggressive looking.

You won't regret it for one second. I've owned the last 2 generation X5s and thought they were superb. This is on a whole other level though. I've only sat in one car thus far...and it was dark but it a big step forwards in every direction. You will love it I'm sure!

Cool

According to Edmund's the length of the G05 increased by 1.1" over the 2018.

You're right about Asian versus German specs. Take the 2019 Lexus RX350 which has a front legroom spec of 44.1". G05 sucks at 39.8" which is a huge (real world) difference. G05 is also 1.8" longer than the Lexus. Lexus starts at $15K less too. BUT, like I've said before it's the most butt ugly car on the road with that spindle grill and sharp lines and the only reason why we're not going back plus they chopped up the internal storage space a bit.

Wheelbase:
2018 X5 - 115.5"; 2019 - 117.1

I just hope our new BMW is not full of first year bugs as we have to drive an hour to the dealorship and online reviews of their service dept. are not glowing. No one needs the aggravation.

Ordered Jan. 2 and still on dot #2 - Scheduled for production

We'll see........

Thanks Chris, I have an X6 M50D which I am very fond of, so I am sure it will be love at first sight when you add a raspy sounding v6, more seats, frickin lasers and more boot to the equation. I guess a common complaint that everyone has on many threads is that they have made the car bigger on the outside in every way but this does not translate to more space. Anyway, I am excited for March 1st (assuming not even further delayed - 3 weeks so far and still not on a boat).

Please do. One of the attributes I like about the F15, is that it does not drive like a big SUV. Was hoping the same for the G05.

I posted the actual dimensions from BMWs website. any 3rd party that says otherwise is wrong. I'm not sure why the Germans never sought to compete in that regard. I'm not a big person at 5'8' 140lbs, nor is my wife who is 5'1"so space isn't the utmost of a concern.

I agree on the bugs part, no one needs to deal with that after a long wait. For what it's worth my car was ordered in November, delayed from Week 51 to Week 3 and just started physical production. I hate staying this but be ready for possible delays.
