Lines in iDrive Display
I've got a 2019 X5, took delivery in December 2018 and hadn't noticed this until now (which makes me believe that it wasn't always happening). I have these lines that aren't exactly horizontal, more like on a 20 degree angle in the display. They move as you move your eyeline so they seem to be related to hardware. They appear as if there's a polarized piece of glass in front of the LCD display. This is very noticeable in bright conditions when the display brightness is at the max. It's not very easy to see it at night because the display is dimmer.
You can't see it at all unless there's a white or light map on the screen (it's much worse with light colors - the absolute worst when using waze or google maps in car play). It may have started when I got my last software update a month ago but I hadn't really driven during the day with the maps open until now. It looks like those little '3D' stickers we had as a kid where one direction shows one thing and the other shows something different, just a faint set of lines that cover the whole screen about 1-2mm apart. I have a photo, though it's hard to see because the camera doesn't capture it well, but you can see it nonetheless. Could anyone with a 2019 X5 let me know if they're also having this issue - you have to check in very bright conditions, as it's not visible at night and there's no way to manually adjust the brightness of the control display. |

Might help if you circle or point out what you're talking about in the picture you attached. As that looks normal to me. Unless you're talking about the blue line. That could be a stream though?

It's really very hard to capture with a camera because it looks like it's caused by the camera (but it's not, it's visible with the naked eye). It's more visible with the human eye than it is with the camera.
I've added a red line that runs parallel to these lines. They're faint angled lines that cover the entire screen, and get worse the brighter it is. Perhaps a lot of people have them and just aren't quite as bothered as I am by them, but I can't imagine that's the case because I also have a 2016 X5 with no such lines. |

I think I see what you are talking about, they are running up and down the whole screen. I do not have those on mine, at least that I noticed. You probably want to take it in sometime and see what the dealer says. You can look at some of the X5s on the lot and compare.

Could be a defective LCD screen. Do you have any sort of protector on it?

Great way to describe it! It sort of looks like there's a polarized screen protector on the display (but there isn't). I talked to the dealer and will have them look at it when I bring it in for oil, and will also compare to others on the lot - although they noted that they may not have any other 2019s left - so I'm super curious to see if anyone else is able to see this (again, the brighter it is - morning sun is best - the more noticeable it is). It spent most of the year in the garage, with only 4200 miles on it because I've been doing a lot of work at my job that requires my beater on the jobsite.

Does it show up on other screens? I know most of those are dark. I'll have to check mine out, since I haven't really noticed. I really need to make the switch to perspective view for good on maps!

It shows up on any light colored images during the day - however, it's actually very hard to find anything in iDrive that's light color other than the full screen maps - almost all of the menus, displays etc are text on black and it's not noticeable within the text. I tried opening the news etc and couldn't find anything that gave me more than an inch or so of white - I wish I could just throw a white test swatch on the screen - that would show it the most. The best way to test it is to connect an iPhone and open Waze (and make sure the map is the day mode map) or Google Maps, those are lighter. At first I thought Waze just did a crappy job with their maps and added these stupid looking lines, then I realized it's everything.

In any case I see that you created a separate thread for the issue, and I would suggest that the advice you were given to take it to a dealer is likely the best way to proceed.
