My Internet is now working, but somehow my kids burned through the 3GB monthly allotment in just over two hours.

Yikes.... That makes me think it is 5G which will crush monthly GBs. I still can't get anyone to help with my issues setting it up.

My dealer is still working with BMW to resolve the issue. What kind of plans are available from T-Mobile? The only pricing I saw was for the magenta plan at $20, but unfortunately it doesn't apply. AT&T has an unlimited plan for $20 a month, which was great.

They have two options:

HotSpot Drive Start which is 1GB of data for 15$

and

HotSpot Drive Unlimited which is 25$

What I can't tell is if if you need to sign up for the 1 GB at 15 and then pay another 25 per month for unlimited for 40$ total or if you can just do the Unlimited for 25$ per month. Based on what their site looks like it seems like it might be the former; I am basing that on the fact that if you have the 1GB plan you can add another GB for 15$ real time. Why would anyone do that instead of the Unlimited if it were only 25$?

Has anyone else been able to get their T-Mobile hotspot service to work on 2023 model? If so, what did you/dealer end up doing to remedy the issue? My dealer couldn't get anywhere with BMW and scheduled a service appt (1 month out) saying they would replace any hardware necessary to make it work. Kind of frustrating, although not any kind of emergency situation.

Mine doesn’t work either. 2023 X5 M50i. I have T-Mobile and it let me setup and add the car to my current plan for $20 a month unlimited, but I wanted the FREE 3 month subscription BMW promised.
This makes zero sense! It’s telling me my car isn’t compatible when I want the ‘free” trial, however it’s completely compatible when I pay for it!

Is this only useful if you want to use your laptop in the car? Or are there some other features in the car that get activated with service?

Interesting...it's telling me that my vehicle is incompatible with the hotspot service and will not let me add the vehicle at all. Which site did you use?

Yes, laptop, tablets etc. It's a mobile hotspot tied to your vehicle and will generate a separate bill.

So you added it via T-Mobile main site t-mobile.com or the hotspotdrive.com page?

I tried using the hotspot drive site and registered successfully but when it connects to BMW Connected drive to get my vehicle’s information, that’s when I get the incompatible message.
If I use the app under your profile where is says 3rd party services/ personal eSIM 5G hotspot, it takes me to my T-Mobile account to register with the Magenta Max car hotspot plan for $20 unlimited. It gives me an entire new number for the car which can be used to make calls etc without my phone being on me.

See my reply above. I added it via T-mobile main site. The hotspot drive page is the one telling me it’s incompatible.

Appreciate the suggestion. I tried what you wrote and it appeared to let me create an account, but said incorrect credentials or just spat out an error telling me to call their support team. Received a similar while trying to reset the password; tried a different email with the same results. So far this BMW-TMobile relationship is a joke and the dealer said they have no way of restarting my 3 month trial. Dealership already tried once to get it working and I doubt they'll be successfull again in a month when I take it in. I'll try TMobile support tomorrow if I get a chance.

I just randomly went to the BMW Hotspotdrive site, click add car from Connected Drive, and my car finally showed up as compatible. I was able to add it, apply the 3 GB Trial, and I am all signed up. I have previously called the dealership Genius, the 1800 line Genius, the Connected Drive folks, and T-Mobile so someone was working on it.

I mentioned to the dealership that I hope it magically works before I have to bring it in, so there's hope

Finally, a resolution! After 2 days of trying the same things previously tried and getting the same result, they ended up replacing the Telemetric Control Unit (TCU). Once they did, https://www.bmwna.hotspotdrive.com/ recognized my vehicle as compatible and I was able to start service.

Great news that this appears to work now. I'm a Tmo customer but elected not to buy this service as the pricing made no sense for my use case.

The key benefit is that many Tmo phone plans has limited data for hotspot. Buying the unlimited esim service is the key sell.

I don't do enough road trips for this to be useful, neither would I want my kids to have that length of screen time in a car.

Took delivery of my new i7 today and got registered on T Mobile for the unlimited 5g data. It doesn't work, keeps looping me over and over saying to activate my ESIM. I have done everything possible and cannot get it to work. I have already been charged by T Mobile my $25. T Mbile says it is active, but their call center's support is horrible. They kept telling me to connect my phone to the car. It is its own account as I use AT&T for my iPhone. I am frustrated and want to get the theater screen to work!

Currently using AT&T for my hotspot in my '21 X5. T-Mobile seems to have faster downloads in our area. Any idea if the SIM card in my X5 is capable of 5G?

current G05 is 4G. 5G connectivity was introduced with the iX and i4

I've read issues ever since BMW switched to T mobile from AT&T regarding the vehicle's mobile connection, but your issue may be best addressed in the i7 forums. good luck!

Activated the "Deutsche Telekom" (T-Mobile) hotspot in my 23 45e today.

Speed test:
Hotspot 1: 77.8 / 8.18 Mbps
Hotspot 2: 76.6 / 7.82 Mbps

T-Mobile 5G In Cabin: 612 / 79.6
T-Mobile 5G on Charging Pad: 595 / 77.2

Verizon in Cabin Test 1: 0.89 / 0.47
Verizon on Pad Test 1: 2.04 / 0.69

Verizon in Cabin Test 2: 7.40 / 0.34
Verizon on Pad Test 2: 15.6 / 0.90

Conclusion:
- T-Mobile hotspot works, but it is slower 4G technology
- Booster is not effective for 5G
- Booster doubled 4G LTE speed for Verizon
