My 2024 X5 M60i - a few impressions and questions...

I finally took delivery of my X5 this past Saturday. Love it. I have to tell you that there is so much technology my head is spinning. It is going to take a while to absorb all of this information and its capabilities. I thought my 2016 X5 (F15) which I ordered new was packed full of technology but this truly is at another level.

I was worried about the large screen but I found it was not so bad. I miss the analog gauges but I'm afraid those days are gone. It is time to embrace it and jump on the technology train.

Disappointed there is no overhead storage for sunglasses. Anyone have a solution for this?

Also, my 2016 X5 had two tracks on either side in the rear area behind the second row seats. There were a set of short poles available from the BMW accessories store that could slide on the tracks with a wide strap between them that could hold grocery bags and other stuff from moving around. It worked very well. However, my new X5 does not have this. All that I can see are four lashing loops on the four corners of the rear area which just won't do. Does anyone have a solution for this?

In my 2016 X5 from time to time I needed to remove the privacy cover from the rear of my X5 to get things to fit in it. I had to leave the privacy cover in my garage. On my new X5 there is a storage area dedicated to this privacy cover underneath the floor next to the spare tire. This is a great improvement. The elastic strap that I used to hold the reusable grocery bags is gone. Maybe these have been there since the introduction of the G05 but it is new to me.

Sadly, the comfort access triggers on the outside rear door handles are gone. They are only on the driver's door and front passenger door. I guess this was a cost cutting measure but I still miss them on the rear doors.

On page 6 of my owner's manual it says there is an "Owner's Manual for Navigation, Entertainment, and Communication is available as a printed book from an Authorized Service Center." It also says that it is available in the "Integrated Owner's Manual in the vehicle." I am sure there is a cost for the printed version. Has anyone purchased this or do you just rely on the electronic version in the X5? I find it sometimes clumsy to navigate through electronic version.

I could not find anywhere in the owner's manual how to program the homelink buttons for garage door openers, etc. If anyone can find it in the owner's manual, please let me know what page. I had to go to you tube to find a video on how to do it.

On my 2023 X5 I have the luggage compartment package where at the press of a button the privacy cover disappears into boot floor, don't think it is available on LCI.
I bought the nav book , didn't cost much but not a lot of detail in there, learnt how to use nav in car, voice recognition does a lot of the settings.

Congrats on the new car. I also picked up a new 24 X5M last Saturday and my previous vehicle was an F series. I totally agree with the tech in the car. After one week I am starting to feel a bit more at home but there’s still some nuances that I discover occasionally. It will get better with time. Climate has been a bit of a pain, but find myself using the voice assistant more and more, works really well.

For the trunk situation I was also kinda disappointed with the lack of nets or easy way to secure items. No solution for me as of yet, probably going to try hooking the net on the 4 anchor loops.

For the home link there’s no info in the manual thst I could find but works the same as the other G series. Lots of YouTube videos. For me press both buttons 1-3 to start learning mode, then press button you want to program and then have the garage remote close it it and press on that too. Hope that helps. Worked for me.

As far as manual, I got the printed manual but use the app one or the in car user manual.

Let’s see some pictures !!!

i used youtube step by step to get my homelink working. several bmw dealer geniuses have postings up.

As for grocery bags...there are two hooks (one one each side) that you can pop out that can hold up 1 bag on each side. not sure if that's as good of a solution but it works for me.

Glasses, i store in the little cubby by the left knee, below the lighting controls.

Interesting on comfort access on the back doors....it works on mine (2022).

As for owner manual...download the owner's app and they have a full pdf of the manual for you.

That's when the PDF version of the owner's manual comes in very handy. I am not sure why you find it clumsy to navigate. Just search for "integrated universal remote control" or "homelink" in the electronic version.

It's been confirmed by several LCI owners that the comfort access on rear doors was removed.

Printed owners manual in a "wallet" holder is standard.
Dealer should have handed it to you or placed in the glove compartment at delivery

It's the navigation handbook you don't get, can be purchased.

Congrats on your new M60! I assume the homelink receiver in the LCI's haven't changed, so use this link for pairing:

It is except for the 50e. (At least in Europe and it's an extra called something along the lines of "Luggage Room Package".

I have these on my F80 M3 and F95 X5M. Its a factory BMW part that replaces the "oh shit handles". Works perfectly

You will also need 4 of these or there won't be anything to screw into

Hope that helps

Looking at the web-site, the configurator says these are a "does not fit" the G05. Do you have these installed and can you provide a couple of pictures? Very curious!
Thanks!

No pictures but i can assure you that they fit 100% as if they came from BMW. I think these were a European option for older cars and they just never offered them on the newer models. I had the same exact ones fitted on my F10, F80 and now F95

I solved the grocery bag problem by getting a collapsible trunk organizer w/ insulated cooler bag. Amazon has tons of them. Here is picture of what I'm using in my X6:

Did you happen to get the Adaptive M Suspension Professional? I ordered an M60i without it, and I’m questioning whether that was the way to go or not.

I just picked up my M60i a few days ago and I did get the Professional suspension. Either comfort or sport so not the 3 choices I have on my F80 M3. Took a tight curve same speed as my M3 without pushing so I’m impressed so far. I have no experience with LCI without it.

Hey, question for you!..... As an F80 and G05 M60 driver, how do you compare the overall 'M-ness' between the two rides?.... I'm currently in the F80 (don't worry, I'm keeping it) & have an M60 with Adaptive M professional incoming so I'm curious as to what to expect. Would you say the M60 leans more toward being a full-M or more on the M-performance side? I ordered the M60 because my inkling is that it's an M-performance vehicle that's the closest to a full-M that exists in the bimmer lineup. Thanks!!

Great question! I have about 800 miles on it in one week so I’ve been busy getting the feel of the M60i. Engine does feel very M. Very strong. Tough to compare the DCT on full aggressive mode to this M60i but it’s pretty exciting under heavy load and especially with everything on sport. Auto sport (S) shifting, even in comfort mode, has surprising amount of mild pops and burbles. Not as dramatic as the DCT and I’m fine with that in a SUV/SAV. M60i on 22s with Continentals is very smooth vs the F80 and our X3 M40i on run flats (boo!). X5 can really take a corner very effortlessly but capably so I am finding this to be just what I wanted. Mostly smooth luxury but with loads of performance capabilities. Looks are killer and that helps too.

If you put the app Waze on your phone, you’ll never use your navigation system again in a few years. Navigation systems won’t even be in cars. It’ll be all based from your phone. Plus, the app shows were all the cops are sitting and if you CarPlay it it’s on your screen.

I have order an m60i with adaptive suspensions. Question is - do I need to add air suspensions or not really. I do not want the pro suspension.

That is up to you as to what type of drive you want. If you want the most comfortable drive possible with some sportiness when in Sport mode then go for the air suspension. If you want a sportier ride that is not quite as comfortable then no need to add it. It would be best if you could test drive both configurations since suspension feel is a personal thing.
