Of course, thanks for adding that. I just wanted to share this info that was confirmed by professional tax preparers with anyone going thru the buyback process, like unfortunately we had to. Not everyone knows this or all the different components of going thru a buyback unless they have actually gone thru one.
Good luck to anyone going thru the process and I hope this info helps.

Good information that I hope I don’t have to use.

Plugged my X5 in this evening and got yet another High Voltage and Drivetrain Warning:

If I go to the dealer again, it will be my FIFTH trip in the first 2,500 miles of ownership for Check Engine Lights and/or Drivetrain/High Voltage warnings.

Assuming they have had it on the shop for over 30 days you should be good to go with a buyback/Lemon. If it hasn't been then it would depend on how many times for each issue. Either way, I would bring up the buyback with the dealer and one a case with BMW.

Each dealer visit was about 1- 1.5 weeks. I guess I just need to see if all these error messages are considered the "same" issue.

As long as you hit 30 calendar days it shouldn't matter if it was one or many issues. What you may need to do though is give them notice and provide them one more time to repair it.

If you are not engaging an attorney then it looks like the Arizona Lemon Law uses the BBB for its process so you may want to see what they say in regards to the steps you should take. Generally when you mention the Lemon Law, BMW will want to pursue a buyback instead so they don't have to mark the title in state where that is required.

If this in Arizona it's not 30 calendar days like Commiefornia but rather reasonable repair attempts.

Arizona lemon law has an either or situation. Direct from the AZ Attorney General website -
"There is a limit on the number of times a consumer must allow the manufacturer to repair the car and the amount of time the car can be out of service. If during the covered period, the manufacturer fails to successfully repair the defect after four attempts, or the car is out of service by reason of repair for a cumulative total of 30 or more calendar days, the manufacturer must accept return of the car or replace the car with a new car."

That is not correct, as shown 30 days is also a qualifier.

You are 0 for 2 on your last two Lemon Law posts, may want to stick to your day job.

Well, the warning went away on the next start and there are no messages stored in Vehicle Status. This is exactly what happened last time.

That is the frustrating part since it can't be narrowed down as to what is causing the problem. Not that you hope for errors but hopefully the next time it sticks do it can be diagnosed and solved (or hopefully solved).

Got my 50e back on Tuesday after the second reprogramming, drive cycles, and battery drain. After less than ten miles of driving I got a momentary Drivetrain Malfunction which did not generate a fault code. When I got into the vehicle again at the dealership the high voltage service message that I and others have experienced returned. When the shop foreman got involved the check engine light came on. My case has been reopened and there’s another loaner iX in the garage. I believe that I’ve met all requirements of the Pennsylvania lemon law. To be continued…

This is a great forum. Wish I joined before I bought my 1st BMW (24 50e). Got the car two weeks ago, and got the High Voltage error message after 200 miles of mostly EV driving. Took to the dealer, and they found Cell module 1-6 fault code as well as electric fan and radiator blinds fault code. All of these codes just happened once. BMW HQ advised to update SW. Took the car back yesterday and will see what happens next....

It is hard to understand how BMW screwed up so badly for a refresh model. Now all the 50e production are stopped. Will we get a recall to fix the problem once for all soon?

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your getting hit with a problem. 50e production has not stopped, it is continuing on a limited basis due to supply issues.

Thanks for the correction. Frankly, it makes sense for them to slow down before sorting this EV drive train problem out.

Here in California, there is almost no 50e on dealer lot. So the 50e production slow down is a significant one.
