X5 45E Grill Shutter Function in Cold Weather
Thought I'd share an experience I had recently. "Check Engine Light" activated several days ago in cold winter conditions so I took the car to my local BMW dealer to have the car serviced. It turns out that grill shutter had frozen in the closed position due to either driving in slush or from getting the car washed. The temperature was 15-25 degrees Fahrenheit at the time. This caused the car's system to flag the fault in the form of a "Check Engine Light". The technician was able to quickly diagnose the failure and after thawing out the car, the light went out.

Had the same CEL lighting up a couple of days ago but with very mild temperature - between 2 to 10 degrees C here. By the time I drove to the dealer a couple days later CEL magically disappeared. I was joking with the SA that my previous X3 had a CEL but related to grill shutter, but the joke became true again this time...
The SA told me BMW is aware of the issue and they cleared a code and "installed a new version of software" to resolve the issue. I think it is a complete hokum but whatever. |
