Understanding: Discounts, Incentives and Rebates
I am looking at ordering a BMW X5 45e and want to ensure I have this correct.
1. First look for a discount off of MSRP. Seems like 6-10% is reasonable 2. Stack incentives on discounted price. Note, do not allow dealer to use this as the MSRP discount. 3. File taxes for an additional $7,500 via a tax base reduction. Thanks. |

Depemds on the car but I assume you are referring to an ordered 45e.
6 is better than nothing, 7-8 is reasonable. 9-10 is great. You've go there rest right. |

It depends on the dealer. But technically it shouldn't matter. Around 11% is true no $ on the deal. Profit will come from doc fees, bmwfs contracts and volume bonuses.
The numbers I gave you before were for ordered cars. For in stock units I'd say 8-10% depending how long the unit has sat. Sounds like the 45e is a pretty desirable car right now so don't expect to get these easily. And if you are in a big market for Electric vehicles like CA then I'd say take what you can get. |

I ordered my 45e last week and got 8% off MSRP, before incentives. The only ones I've seen on dealer lots were minimally optioned. You should be able to get 8% off in either case...maybe more. I started the conversation by telling my salesman that I was seeing people on Bimmerfest reporting discounts of 8-10% in the northeast. He quickly offered 8, at the bottom of the range I gave him.

I believe Virginia has State electric tax credits only if the vehicle has over a certain range. Unfortunately, the x5 45e falls short. Also, if you have to install an electric charger, you get a 30% off as a tax credit (form 8911). |

just remember % off MSRP is just part of a deal. You need to look at the whole deal. If you lease look at money factor if you finance look at the rate. Both of these can be marked up and can take up chunk of your discount. Also look at fees. Best bet is to search the forum and find one of those pricing threads and post your full breakdown of the deal in there and let everyone take a look.
also incentives can be regional. Some may have incentives and others may not. You can check this by going to the BMWUSA website and putting in your zip. As far as huge discounts off MSRP, that will depend a lot on region of the dealer and also allocations the dealer has. If you are at a dealer which is only getting one allocation per month and is a high volume dealer of X's you may not get best results, allocations are key. Supply and demand 1o1 right also allocations, like I always say, no production number, no allocation. Make sure you are not getting told you have allocation when you may not. happy hunting

What do you mean by allocation number? I am thinking about ordering an X3 or X5 electric. If the car is ordered now but not delivered until 2021 can I still claim the 2020 tax credit?

The tax credit is for purchasing the vehicle not ordering it. |

Cutting it real close. Hopefully you have an allocation by now - if not, could be tough.

I got my production number on 9/26/20 and moved to scheduled for production at the beginning of October (around 10/1/20). BMW (high volume dealer) told me probably mid November, so who knows. PS: Auricom mentioned in another post: There isn't an "official" order tracking thread. Plenty of threads in the general G05/06 forum and Pricing, Tracking subforum. |

Thanks TurtleBoy - I gave the Genius a call and they mentioned that the order was received on 9/23/20 (on my garage bmw website was updated on 9/26/20, so there is definitely a delay between systems) and scheduled for production now. The Genius told me that they are getting the design and materials but, unfortunately, there was no estimated date of starting production.

I assume you did it but you want to make sure you talk to a live person rather than using the automated system since they seem to have more info according to folks who have done it. |
