BMW extended warranty or 3rd party warranty
I recently bought a CPO 2021 X5 xDrive40i, loving it!
At the time of purchase, the dealer only offers 3rd party extended warranty provided by Zurich, it's a comprehensive coverage (coverage attached, confirmed it covers air suspension as well which is the major factor why I want to have a extended warranty), contract term 96 moths/85000 miles, expiration 01/04/2029, $100 deductible. I was able to negotiate from $4500 to $3900, I know it's not recommended to buy extended warranty at time of purchase, but the finance manager told me that price is only available at time of purchase, and it can be canceled at any time. He recommended me to shop around afterwards, but don't miss the deal. So I bought it. Then I started shopping around, the premium BMW extended warranty's term is one year less than Zurich one, but unlimited mileage (I don't drive a lot so the Zurich's 85,000 miles cap is not a problem for me.), the price is around $3000 - $3600 depending one the deductible. Does anyone have good experience with Zurich extended warranty? I was debating between stay with Zurich one or go with BMW extended warranty. Appreciate your inputs! |

My view is that I would not buy one at all. Extended warrantys have too many exclusions and it’s simply an insurance policy underwritten by Zurich. Insurance companies are in the business of making money as is the finance manager.

I would not buy a policy either. Put the $3K or $4K in the bank and use it for repairs, if needed. I have owned a LOT of cars in my life, have never bought an extended warranty, and never regretted it. As the previous post stated the insurance companies are in business to make money. I don't want to help them.

I have ordered my first BMW. One of the main reasons I purchased the X5 is Consumer Reports rated it #1 for reliability in its class - beating even Lexus RX. I have typically owned Toyotas and Lexus cars that seldom need repair. I am assume that the BMW will not need repairs either. Other than warranty work I avoid the dealers like the plague. The indy guys have the computers to diagnose problems just like the dealer. There is nothing magical about the dealer's service techs.
Sometime I may get burned. But if something really bad happens to my new X5, I can more than pay for fixing it with the money I did NOT spend on extended warranties. |

Never a third-party warranty most third-party warranties don’t really warranty much and if they do, they’ll send a third-party person to come out and check the work out and to see if they can find a local junkyard to fix it second factory extended warranties are just praying that you never use them and most likely you won’t. My thoughts take your money save it in checking account or savings account. If the time comes to use it, you’ve got your money. If not, you’ve got a nice down payment to put towards a new car,
