The contrast between your first day impression below and this post seems to be mostly things that can be resolved.
The A/C issue should be a simple visit to the dealer. The iDrive issue have been discussed on here and can be fixed with the correct setup. Suspension is MSport, so unless you got the comfort handling package (air suspension) it is going to be the most tight of all 3 options. I am coming from an Audi and went through hours of their MMI interface setup before it worked. My opinion is that you expected things to be all set when you picked up the car and you are frustrated with the delivery. I pick mine up this week and I am reserving at least 4 hours for delivery to make sure everything is setup properly and if any issues are present make sure they are all logged before leaving the dealership. Your First Day Impression Picked up my 40i M sport 20" Phytonic Blue, Tartufo, anthracite poplar matte trim, leather dash, night viz, luxury seat, acoustic glass, prem pack 2, drivers assist pro, exec pack today. Replaced my '15 m sport 50i. The 40i rides much more smoothly and noticeably more quiet. Not as sharp handling, but more sedate and composed in general driving. Different tires may be part of that. I miss the 50i growl and grunt--who wouldn't--but the 40i is smooth and torquey. Haven't thrashed it yet, because run-in. I like the motor though. Idrive is much improved. Way more intuitive. Very well done. Phytonic blue is very nice, but a bit darker than I expected. I have the impression that the msport, with the body colored extra bits, makes it seem darker than if it had the chrome accents of the non msport. 20" 740M wheels. Do not like them. They don't go well with the phytonic, in my personal opinion. Regret that choice. Tartufo is very nice. I agonized over that choice as many online pics made it look orange. It's NOT orange. Damn digitized pics kept me awake at night worrying about that one. Fret not. Tartufo is nice. The thing that helped me decide was someone posted a pic of the several large swathes of the different colors, with tartufo, cognac, and coffee together. That made it obvious that tartufo was darker than the cognac and digital pics are liars. Luxury/massage seats are brilliant. My 6'5", old, bad-back having goofy ass likes these seats. Night vision. I'm waiting for a deer--of which there are many here in Texas hill country--to get in it's sights. So far it picked up a dude bending down to check his mailbox by the side of the road. Didn't see him with the dipped headlights. There wasn't any danger, and it was more of a "gee whiz, would you look at that?" moment. But it seems to work as advertised. Heated/cooled cup holders kept my coffee fairly warm. Laser lights. Honestly can't tell much difference with the laser lights over whatever the good lights on my F15 were called. Definitely not enough to justify the cost. The lights do seem more active than F15 ones...you can see them moving much more with wheel input. Driving assistance is going to take getting used to. But I think that's likely true with any marque's driving assistance kit. Only big gripe so far is the connected drive app and vehicle aren't talking well. Perhaps I should have had the dealer help me set that up. No patience though. Story of my life. |

F15 AC was a joke, if he thinks the G05 is bad maybe he never had an F15... (I'm sure he did, but the G05 has good AC)

Sorry to hear you hate the car. I love my car more and more everyday as i get used to it no matter issues or the good things in my x5. Mine has lot of bugs too especially lane depature but i just turn it off and wait until they can solve it.
I test drive 40i before i buy 50i but honestly 40i is not bad for its power but i just want more so i picked 50i. Good luck with your new car.

I'm constantly adjusting those, one of the great little features on my F15. Last thing I want to have to do is keeping going into the bloody I-drive everytime I'd want to fine tune the centre vents... Maybe I will keep the F15 instead?

OP - I have owned over 40 new cars and have run into a couple that I just messed up on. Get rid of it, not worth the heartburn. Doesn’t matter what others think. You have to like it. I’ve been in your spot, if the gut isn’t happy it rarely will ever come around.
Everyone else, I’m not suggesting this is a first world problem. I’m lucky to have been able to trade cars in. |

That might be true, but he supposedly knew or should have known that he bought an inline 6. Regardless of what he drove before, to say the 40i power is meh is simply a ridiculous statement. It speaks to the credibility of the rest of his post.

The first time you get your car, you are excited and everything is good. Once you calm down and start to use it, you discover the bad things about it. I was excited when I got my F16, but once I discovered so many issues with it, I started to hate it. Every time I got into the car, my mood went down. After 8 months fight with BMW, they replaced it but the new car still had different problems. I was very disappointed with BMW and moved on. |

Over the course of 33 years as a BMW owner and having owned 25+ models I cannot recall of one that ever froze us out and that includes six X5s. Last edited by SCA; 02-18-2019 at 05:59 PM.. |

It is way to soon for that to be fully confirmed. Report back when we are in late July and August.

I too hated it when I heard they took away the red/blue wheel. Then my wife and I picked up her new G05. We put it on auto and left it alone. So far we haven't hand to ajust anything. Perfectly comfortable all the time. No need (so far) for the red/blue wheel. I think they finally figured out how to do the auto setting. Hoping so anyway. |
