2nd key not programmed - 2025 M60i

Just picked up a brand new 2025 M60i today. Got home - realized the second key fob doesn't work, at all. Any easy way to reprogram?

It has to be tied to your VIN. Take it to a dealer and let them sort it out, they may need to order a new one. Obviously check the battery in it and maybe try starting by holding it to the steering column.

Tried the steering column, no luck. Sales guy suggested holding to the column and pressing start 15 or more times, that didn't work either. Trying to save a trip back!

Make sure the other remote fob is NOT near the vehicle.

Then make sure that your are holding the non-working remote fob in the correct position (next to the icon on the steering column) as you PRESS the start button with your foot on the brake.

I've seen in past threads where holding the remote in the wrong direction can affect the ability of the remote to start the vehicle. Check your owners manual...which should have an image of where & how to hold the remote fob next to the icon on the steering column. The transponder that sends the 128-bit encryption is powered through INDUCTION to send the data to the correct component/modules in order to start the vehicle...even if the battery is DEAD inside the remote.

One of my BMWs shows the remote laying flat against the steering column and I've seen where one end of the remote is to be held next to the steering column. So check to make sure you're holding your remote in the correct position.

Again, make sure that the working remote is NOT in the vicinity where it can be picked up by the antennas.

If none of this works, then you're gonna have to make a trip back to the dealership. Perhaps you were given the wrong remote fob.

Examples of different positions to hold the remote...again, CHECK YOUR OWNERS MANUAL for correct position for your BMW:

Really appreicate this - followed the steps on how to hold the key in the manual. Still no dice, so back to the dealer it is. Thanks!

Ah, sorry to hear it still didn’t work. Hopefully the dealership can get to the root of the issue. Keep this post updated to your outcome…it will be interesting to read what is going on.
