Yeah, you’re probably right. Thanks for the link. Gonna have to bring it to my SA and get it updated I guess. I guess OTA Updates don’t work? I ask because when I try it says its the latest software, which clearly isn’t the case.

I called up connected drive. They said that some vehicles were incorrectly given 'three months' instead of 'three years' entitlement to Connected Music. They need to do something on their end to put it back.

Heard nothing since and it hasn't appeared (I've tried updating), but I assume it will over the next few days.

Okay, so it actually got fixed today (only took them 20 days and four phone calls).

If I play spotify from iDrive it seems to frequently stop and switch to carplay and my phone. Obvioulsy I'd rather it used the iDrive "version" as then it uses the car's data and not my phone.

Don't have any issues playing normal music through the iDrive (from USB for example).

Does everyone with an iPhone have this problem?

Yes it is. I think 256kbps and you can’t change it. It is generally good but it is noticeable difference between Carplay with 320kbps. One advantage is you have a list view in HUD when on Carplay only Next/Prev

I have a (trial) premium account, but cannot get Spotify on BMW to accept my credentials.

I have lost track of how many times I scanned the BMW code (on the screen) in my phone and that always work. Then I take the BMW code to my pc, login to pair, and check the BMW list of notice, and finally see that my account is paired. I return to the vehicle and have to start all over.

I am not willing to do a manual login in the BMW because it rejects my email and my use id must be 30 odd characters. In any event, why does the Spotify web tell me the pair when through but BMW refuses to connect?

When it's playing a certain playlist, how can I go (back) to a different playlist with steeringwheel controls? Left arrow doesn't do the trick? Is it correct that within spotify I cannot assign a certain playlist to the memory presets (1-8)?

I have Spotify work when CarPlay is active. However, even then even I go to the Media menu and select Spotify (in green) it wants me to login.

Is there a software solution or does everyone just ignore that part of the menu?

I think you are using spotify from your phone instead of the car. You have to login with your spotify credentials just once. That way you don't use the dataplan from your phone but from the car's build in sim.

This seems right to me, but as I mentioned upthread the G05 Spotify login rejects my email address and wants that absurd 30 character id which confuses me yet again. Remember, I have scanned the QR code numerous times and the BMW page comes up on my iPhone and says all is okay, but still no joy when I go back to the Media menu.

If I manually enter the 30 character id would that rid me of having to use CarPlay to use Spotify?

So do you get a bad login/username error? Can you make a picture of the reject? I didn't get the QR code either. I just logged in once with email/pass and it worked. I'm just trying to switch playlists with steering wheel controls. Haven't figured it out yet.

I do not get an error message as such, just another QR code or a push to do the manual login which requires an email that they have rejected.

I do get an error message when I use my email and password and now perhaps I should ask if I must have an AT&T account for the data like I got for free when the G05 was new.

Did you type in your email in uppercase? I did that the first time because uppercase was the default. Have you checked your login credentials on the spotify website to make sure they are correct? You shouldn't need an additional data plan for the car (like wifi hotspot). I don't have that and it works fine for me.

No, you do not need to have an active hotspot subscription to get Spotify Connected Music in the car in US. It uses the built-in Connected Drive provisioning. No pun intended, but yes, I also noticed the QR code method can be spotty. If it doesn't work for the userid/password login, best guesses are a) weak built-in radio signal where you are (there is no way to check, but try other, urban locations if applicable), b) typo in userid/password (take your time), c) IIRC you need Spotify Premium (paid) to connect.

PS: As otherwise stated, make sure you use correct case for password. For good measure, use correct case for userid and/or email as well (email case doesn't matter for email, but systems that use email as userid may require matching case). Also, you should be able to change the Spotify userid in your Spotify account to something rational — I suggest "arewehavingfunyetxeno", but that's not much shorter :-).

Thanks for the replies.
When scanning the code at home, those attempts are with the car inside the garage. However, I believe I tried this more than once at my office where there is no covered parking.
I have tried all upper then all lower case for my email. I am certain of my credentials and have made enough attempts to think at least one of those would have been keyed in correctly.
The third point might be the critical one. As noted upthread, I have a trail premium account. They have my cc, but no charges until after the 90 days.
Thanks for the tip about changing the Spotify id. At this point, I cannot get it to work in the car and occasional problems on my iPhone 11 Pro so I may just retire back to Apple Music.
