That looks great.

I have a spare G05 front grill and was planning to have it Cerakoted by a local gunsmith, but your pics are making me reconsider wrapping it in 3M gloss black vinyl.
The vinyl works very well but the trick is to remove the inner slats and wrap them individually and then the surrounding piece separately as well.

Also he chose to use Avery Dennison instead of 3M as it is easier to work with.
How long would you say to disassemble grill off the car?

Thirty seconds to detach the grill from the car, but then you have to unhook the camera. There are three plastic prongs holding the camera in place and you only have two hands to hold them back to release the camera, so that was a little tricky. At least that was my experience, maybe somebody else knows a simpler way.

Agreed but if u want to remove the slats specially, that's a while, there are over 30 clips

Ah, yes, that would take some time.

If you were going to get it wrapped, remove the slats

That makes sense. TBH, I didn’t see how to do that, I painted mine and just masked the outer ring and painted the slats while still attached.

You have to remove the entire grill off the vehicle and on the back side, there are tabs there to release the slats.

Coffee, the camera makes it look lighter than reality. Look at the accent stiching, coffee uses tan, Tartufo uses black, my car has Tartufo so... also by accent stiching I mean the ones on the sides not the merino quilted pattern

back looks factory except for the black exhaust surrounds

Has anyone had the exhaust trims painted whilst in situ? I assume a good job cannot be done but the time/cost to remove them just does not stack up (no way I would try and butcher the car myself!).

But let me get this straight, was the 3 hours of work just to get the grill wrapped? (The shutters area already black on the M Sport, correct?)

So how much effort is it take to exchange the grill? Is it something you can do yourself?

If it is easy enough to swap grills, I would buy a second grill, get it painted black and then (depending upon season) go all black (winter tires on black rims paired with the black grill)

Here is how to install it.

I just finished wrapping the grill inserts with Gloss Black Avery Dennison vinyl. It took 3.5 hours to do both sides. It was my first time working with vinyl wrap and the learning curve was steep.

Overall the results are OK. Only time will tell on durability.

I just cut the vinyl for the grill surround and will attempt to wrap that today.

Do you think wrap (£260) or paint (£180)? My instinct says painting better regardless of price but interested in the group's thoughts?

I would personally go with paint (even though I just vinyl wrapped my grill). It's probably a more durable way to go.

I recall reading on this thread that paint was a concern as well due to it chipping. I spoke to my guy who did the wrap and he had concern of any paint properly adhering to the chrome and to do properly, the surface would need to be prepped correctly like sanding it down. I just wish bmw would have have released an oem one but i'm happy with my wrap
