It's an honor to be among such nice cars on that list.
I am glad that I am in the US and not UK, and it's a good bet that I will NEVER own any of our most stolen ones (except for the Ford truck, but F350 is not on the list, so I am safe) And here's the list of the 10 most frequently stolen new cars last year and the number of thefts reported: Nissan Altima: 1,153. Toyota Camry: 1,100. GMC Sierra: 957. Hyundai Elantra: 929. Ford Fusion: 874. Ford F-150: 842. Ram Pickup: 835. Toyota Corolla: 832.

the title needs to add "and Recovered" it's not the most stolen car.

Happened to my F15 40d M sport back in August. Took the thieves 90 seconds to get into my car and drive it away. Found it 5 hours later thanks to Tracker but the damage had already been done.
Ripped out all the electronics in the boot space, ripped plastic covers out inside car to hack at wiring loom, damaged the roof trim and leather seats. Left window open so the rain completely soaked the interior. Got the car back but most of the electronics no longer work. cost my insurers approx £15k to repair. Actually wished they had torched it so i would have had a complete loss. |

Do we know if the G05 keys definitely deactivate after a few minutes if they do not detect movement? I had heard this on the forum but would like it confirmed.

If not I certainly won't be buying a G05 in 12-18 months time, as the stupid option pack system BMW have created with the G05 means stupid comfort access gets bundled in with other stuff I'd want. I was able to order my F15 as I wanted it, i.e a non-M-Sport X5 without comfort access, and in the UK a M-Sport X5 with comfort access is just a thief magnet.

On Mercedes after car has been locked you press the lock button on the key quickly twice and it disables the key. You would think other manufacturers would do this. Definitely works as if you then go to the car the comfort access will not work until you press any button on the key. Initially I kept forgetting to press the button before going back to the car and had to get the keys out of my pocket but quickly learned to press a button (I press close button) when I take the keys out of the draw.

Confirmed that key deactivates so we should see a stop to this kind of crime.
I guess they will break-in to steal the keys instead...but at least it is more of a deterrent. |

Same holds true for most of Europe. Problem is that thieves can cross over into Eastern European countries very easily... and then they are gone..... either disassemled for parts or sold into countries of the former Soviet Republic.

I'm the guy whos F15 was stolen recently in the above post. I'm currently in the unplanned position now of specing out my list for a new G05 X5 as the insurance company actually paid out for a replacement car. Given a choice I'd rather not have the comfort access option again, but I really want some of the other options in the package. NoCompromise - I'd appreciate if you could tell us where you got your confirmation on the key deactivating? |

end of November 2018; i had my F15 X40d M Sport taken from my drive, i did not have comfort access on my vehicle, however the speed in which the guys opened my front door (i have a 5 lock door entry system) was quicker than i could ever open it with a damn key!
less than 3 mins my car was gone, came into house and took my car keys and drove off, police showed zero interest took over 3 weeks to come round and actually wanted to know "how i felt" in case it went to court and they could use my feelings against the perp?! luckily i had GAP insurance (thank feck); they paid out within 19 days....which was a touch; insurance also paid quick... i had the whole thing on CCTV, but not the police or insurance cared for it. the police said "you have insurance dont worry" the best bit was about 2 months later in Jan this year, i got an email from the police saying "as we cannot make out the face in video we will not be pursuing" errr... you could make out the damn face! |

No excuse not to have a tracker these days - halves the insurance cost so pays for itself almost from day 1. The confirmation regarding the key was from BMW - I asked the question of the dealer who copied/pasted from an internal email. |

i did not get a tracker as i did not have comfort access so thought i was safer than most... spent alot of money on a front door so felt safe in that fact as well, had state of the art cctv with motion alerts, house alarm blah blah... what i didnt take into account was they could open the house door even when locked! so in hindsight (its a great thing) i have spent a mini fortune on making the house more of a fortress than it previously was and now spent on a tracker and another immobiliser for the car; they are sitting back at the fitters awaiting my new G05 as i rejected the other.. hopefully its more of a deterrent, you can get in my car but it wont go anywhere and i am going back to the 80's with a steering wheel lock! |

I had my stolen in August and have still not had any communication with the Police. The Met just do not care. Mine is on CCTV and they haven't even asked for it

yet theft of a vehicle of £000's of pounds and they have no interest?! if you were a thief wheres the deterrent, absolute zero, then we wonder why car theft is rife, as the thieves know the police do diddly squat about it! the whole attitude of "you are insured", "no one was hurt"; its almost treated like a victim less crime?! |

I was struggling to even get a 10% reduction after having a top of the range tracker fitted to my X5.
