Picked it up! Finally :) Good & Bad Items

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I decided not to wait and I went to pick up the car late yesterday! Overall, I'm in love <3.

What I really like:
  • Sport Mode: Much more sporty drive than my 2016 M-Sport F15
  • Screens and other Gadgetry: Love most of it - some stuff is too many menus deep but I suspect that will improve with time
  • Massaging seats: Amazing
  • HUD: much bigger/better than F15, same for HK Stereo: much better sound than before
  • Looks: wow! I love it even more than I thought I would...same color combo as my F15 Carbon Black/Black w/21" - and I couldn't be happier

What I don't like:
  • Ventilated seats: weak ventilation so instead I wish I had gotten the Black with Brown stitching with the ///M stripes
  • Brakes: WAY more effort to brake than F15 and those were 3 years old and never ever serviced - has anybody else felt that the brakes were not very BMW-like?
  • BMW ConnectedDrive - dealer registered under wrong email account and even though the car itself is logged into the right account, the app is incapable of adding the car to the list of vehicles - errors out saying it's already assigned, and for sure (confirmed with BMW) it has been removed from the wrong email. Genius says it's BMW Assist that has to help, BMW Assist says Genius has to help - I'm caught in the middle.
  • Carplay vs iDrive competition between systems and how non-integrated they feel
  • Comfort Access with foot to open is finicky to say the least - takes 4-5 tries to get it to work.
  • Comfort Access walk up to unlock works about 50% of the time
  • iPhone overheats in the charging tray and triggers ApplePay

In retrospect, options that I have and would give up: Luxury Seating even though I like the massage - and I would have added Leather Dash and the Blue ///M Brake Calipers

Also, the on-site Genius that was assigned to my delivery didn't seem to know about certain options...training is too new, and I knew my way around the new iDrive better than he did.

Lastly, the lack of pull-ahead by BMWFS and the disallowance of any promos being applied to X5 is just greedy but alas, they know we're all obsessed with Bimmers and that's why they can get away with this stuff, particularly during launch.

Thanks for the write up. What did you get the base or msport? Did you get air suspension?

Congrats on the new X5. Larger wheels and tires are heavier. That means more rotating mass that has to be brought to a halt, and a compromise in braking performance, with more brake wear and longer stopping distances

M sport brakes have a nice bite, but I'm getting some squealing at low speeds.

Thanks for the info, I skipped the ventilated seats because they suck in my F15, so happy to know how they work to confirm my decision although it stinks they are paired with the massage and you love that, think I will stick with neither for the money.

Brakes, I also ordered the msport brakes - always find the F15 brakes a bit too touchy personally, getting out of my other BMW's or my AMG, I have to recalibrate and I put people through the windshield the first couple stops, so would like a little more progressive effort personally.

That's really good to know - and truthfully I wish I had known this before - but we live and learn

Standard brakes are in my build. I think that I will ultimately get my calipers painted because now that I've seen as many pix as I've seen, I really wish I had ordered them.

iPhone XS (256MB Verizon if those matter at all - I think not)
Apple original silicone case (in Red not that that matters at all lol)

And I'm not sure if it's intended to be a rapid charger or not, but I can tell you that when it does work (initially), it's super slow as compared to a cheapie amazon Qi charger I have at home.

I took delivery of my X5 yesterday and the I had to give it right back for some software update the shop had to contact BMW for but couldn't due to the holiday.

The only issue I had with the car was the front passenger seat. I'm a big guy at 300lbs and 5ft 10" so I hate sitting high. The seat refuses to go low enough to where I'm comfortable. I don't have this issue in any one of my other cars.

Btw the new back seats are awesome. I sat back there with plenty of legroom and the seat was set to my setting. I sit fairly back with my legs extended so I was surprised how much space there was.

I find your passenger seat issue on my 2016 F15 X5 also, it doesn't go as low as the drivers seat for some reason, I always feel like I am sitting high even as low as it will go.

Same issue here - I went in on Friday, got financing done, ready to have the X5 Detailed, and they got a call from service stating there's a recall on a part that they're not sure what it is, but its coming from either AZ, or Germany - ETA is between 2/3 days up to a week so hopefully I'll be able to pick it up by this Friday. Was yours just a software update or did you have any parts that needed to be replaced?

As of this morning, I'm officially complaining about the brakes. I called the dealer - they are running it up the pole with service and a regional manager. Stopping the car takes unreasonable effort on the break pedal, and is somewhat scary...I stopped twice in the middle of an intersection already today.

Hopefully it's just a quick fix...Is anybody else having any braking issues? Specifically distance and effort to stop?

I was in the same boat as you from almost two weeks ago. The part you need is a gps and entertainment module. BMW is sending the part out by vin number not by who needs the part. BMW has no ETA on this part because they are still making it. So we decided to switch x5's and found another just like it and finished paperwork today. IF you dont mind waiting you will be fine, if you think you are only going to wait a week you might want to rethink things. We were in a 18 loaner x5 and they were going to keep us in it until ours was ready. sorry for the bad news
