It's $1,795 for the 2018 model.

WTF. This should be standard fit.

2018 requires a hardware upgrade to enable this, hence the cost + BMW levy because its BMW..

I believe the 2019 has everything set to go so it should just be a software upgrade/change.

So do you think this will just be a retrospective update sometime or will it be an option?

My wife is connected with BMW Barrie on social media and they posted to say that the BMW X5 will have remote start. My wife asked and they say it's an option that is coming. I think in the US the option number / code is 1CR.

I've asked our Dealership and they have no info as to when this will become available.

No clue to be honest. If its an option, it should not be very expensive. I still believe that if there is no additional hardware required, coding shuld enable its possible to do so.

I've been going through the TIS repair manual and searched around and can't find any specific hardware for the remote engine start. It seems that pressing the lock button 3 times is just a different instruction than just pressing it once..

Let's hope we get something soon. I'll keep asking my contact at the dealerships every so often.

According to my CA:

"Remote start is not currently listed as a feature in the Canadian market.

However, BMW has a software patch in the works to add remote start to this years X5's. It may even be available when your car arrives [end of Feb 2019].

We received a bulletin about it last week, so I would count on having remote start on your X5."

What I heard from My CA it's just a software update will enable your car to do remote start.

Let's see how greedy they get. Considering how popular the feature will surely be here, I suspect they will end up charging something. I hope I am wrong though.

Based on the Build your own part on the US site, a X5 does not automatically come with remote start. It is a 300 USD option. It is included in the price of their Executive Tier as well.

So if BMW Canada follows their lead, they may charge an extra 400-500 CAD for it, or bury it in one of the expensive packages maybe increasing the price of that package as well.

We'll all find out soon enough.

Not a G05 owner yet. Still investigating and reviewing options and trying to get answers from the sales folks.
Was talking to a sales advisor in Calgary who confirmed that they had received the bulletin and remote start would be available as a retrofit. When I asked for any costs involved, he stated that what they had been told at the briefing that morning was it would be similar to the tow hitch. So although not sure retrofit would be about twice the price of factory enabled.
Seems like no one has clarity yet.

So that means it will be available as option.

The cost of a tow hitch is $750 so it seems like the retrofit cost is going to be in this ballpark. I still believe it should just be a software update for which they should not be charging this much. I may wait to see if it can be enabled via coding.

My CA mentioned the bulletin and that he expects it to be included on my X5 when it arrives end of this month / early Feb. I'll be surprised if they charge for this.

It has been allocated for production but I don't believe it has started yet.

You should look up your VIN info on the VIN decoder once you are assigned a VIN to see if the remote start is listed as an option on your X5.My X7 just finished production and the remote start is not listed in the specs from the VIN decoder.I looked up the VIN info on another US X7 that just finished production and the remote start is listed as an option on the VIN decoder.I would assume that the feature should be listed on the VIN decoder for a Canadian X5 or X7 if it supposed to be included on the vehicle.

I'll give that a go when I have a VIN

I'm with you 100% on this. I think the software can be coded to enable remote start, I don't believe there is any added hardware for the option when it does become avail.

Morning Guys,

BMW Canada released the Remote Start software patch to dealerships on Thursday.

My 2019 X5 arrived at the dealership on Friday and received the software update on Saturday. I haven't been it work but my SA after pressing the lock button 3 times the vehicle will run for up to 15 minutes.

Currently it is out getting PPF and Tint and will let know the software version once I take delivery later this week.

This is great news! I'm going to call service right now and schedule a time to get this done.

Did they tell you it was free or that there would be a charge?

My CA informed me today that the remote start will be included in the premium essential and premium ultimate packages. According to the information he was provided, you cannot order it as a standalone option and the price of the packages would be increased by 500$.

They are being sent information about this in piecemeal by BMW Canada so he was not able to answer some of my questions like will the retrofit only be available to people who took one of those packages.

I will keep posting new info about it as I get it. He was expecting to get another bulletin either late today or tomorrow with more info.
