Don’t be that guy who puts fake M on his X5. Just because we think the engine is the same. It’s same for guys who think S55 is same as N54.. SMH

Conceptually though the engineering designs seem similar to the S63 but would love to know more of the changes they decided to introduce instead of just gracing the G05 LCI with the S63.
Hopefully iDrive 8.5 is updated with the G90 with M quick select options. The current M iDrive 8.5 without quick select reminds me of a DOS interference.

Something is up as if the S68 was the same engine for the M60i and F95/F96, then builds should in theroy be swapable between a G05/G06 S68 and F95/F96 S68. But this is not the case as M60i allocations are plentiful, whereas X5M/X6M’s are limited.

As a software engineer, the DOS reference just made me smile 😃 I do feel the G90 will introduce some refinements to the system as I'm barely comfortable with 8.5 and I've been giving it an extensive go through as a person that loves tech. Getting to the M specific menus requires a bit too many presses and tbh I miss the 1-7 shortcuts we could map to sub menu options.

Agreed with your second point as theoretically that should be possible get the M60i allocations paint a different picture as mentioned. I don't want to assume it to be the true M variant components being the issue (I'm a bit unaware at least of the chassis differences between the true M and M60i).

It's very intentional of BMW to be tight lipped like this as they enjoy glorifying their engineering feats. I'll just have to scour the Internet to see an eventually tear down of the block itself. (If money were not an object I would get one for the sake of engineering and find out but I'm holding out that the G90 wows me into writing check eventually).

The iDrive 8.5 quick select vs non quick select is an issue, as quick select has 8 short cut tabs. This was not a problem with iDrive 7, whereas a full M vs series production BMW had the M specific settings easily accessible via the M setting haptic button on the center consuls. Why did BMW M have to overlay M specific graphics for iDrive 8.5? Then bring back the physical buttons that were removed.
