Got it but who cares

Also in Atlanta and I got mine yesterday too. I notice no real differences at all. I was really hoping I'd get the Assisted Driving view for my MY19 X5, but alas, nothing. OTA has been such a worthless feature that my CA touted as the next best thing.

Tesla is over there adding stop sign and traffic light recognition, full YouTube and Twitch play, increased braking performance, and hidden easter eggs.

BMW and similar manufacturers' tech infrastructure is almost a joke at this point.

Pretty sure it does. Wasn't doing that before the update.

One thing I noticed after upgrade is that Stop Engine option is missing from the pull down menu in central control display.

Received my first remote software update today. Previous 7/2019.55 to 11/2019.70. My X is a 2019 40i.

So it appears they are pushing out the updates.... finally.

Same here. Also in Arkansas. Upgrade process was easy and flawless.

I got the alert yesterday. By the time I had it downloaded on my phone, my car also downloaded it. Today, I got home and decided to go ahead and update the software. It was pretty flawless.I didnt stay around and sit in the car to see what was going to happen. It just told me to leave the key fob in my car, and about 15 minutes later I got an alert on my phone that the update was complete.

Once I got to the car, the main infotainment screen was totally off but the driver's side screen was functioning as normal. But once I started the engine up, the middle screen sprang to life. I haven't driven it out yet, but I got a message saying that idrive was now updated.

Overall I'm very impressed with the whole process. It honestly, wasn't much different than updating iOS. I cant speak for Tesla, but this is a great first step for BMW. Hopefully we can expect more OTA updates as time goes on.

Edit: so the update was supposed to enable a checkbox for the rear taillights to light up during the daytime when the DRLs are on. I don't see any new options for exterior lighting in that menu for the rear taillights to be active when DRL is on. Anyone else?

My 2020 M50i received update on iPhone first ...now it's showing up in car. I'm skipping this update. My bimmerercoding is perfect for now. I don't see reason to move until major release.

11/2019.70 is a fairly minor release.
I lost some coding changes - like ASS memory, Sports Plus/Comfort Plus driving modes, and default driving mode, however interestingly I did NOT lose ADV coding - so wondering if ADV is now a standard feature enabled under 11/2017/70?

ADV is all in DKOMBI and none of your other mentioned settings are in DKOMBI — maybe the update simply didn't include any changes to DKOMBI ECU. If you had ESys backups, you could check CAFD file versions numbers before and after update and/or do a compare.

The only 'quirk' I've experienced so far is that my headlights and all lights defaulted to 'on' instead of being on 'auto' mode as I previously had it before this first OTA update.

I don't know for sure about the X5 but on my 2020 X7 40i when I check the box for "Daytime Running Lights" it enables both the front and rear "Daytime Running Lights". You can check this by checking the check box for daytime running lights, starting the car, placing the car in park, setting the emergency brake (or not), exiting the car and walking to the back of the car. The rear tail lights should be illuminated.

In my X7 the rear daytime running lights are always on when it's daylight out if I have the DRL box checked. I'm on iStep version 03/2020.31. This also worked on my previous iStep version of 07/2019.59.

What is the advantage of rear lights being on during daylight?

As all running lights, better visibility. Also some rear lights for people that forget their headlights after dusk, but that's a moot point on the X5 due to forced automatic lights mode.

Well I think it's the same reason for DRLS: safety. If it's daytime and cloudy and you can better see a car if it has its lights on in the front. Then the same logic makes sense for the tail lights. I'm frankly surprised that when whoever came up when DRLS didn't also include tail lights.

Regardless, I'm happy if bmw can ota upgrade our lights to this option if it helps some moron not hit me from the back.

Btw has anyone with the .70 update actually tested this to see if it works?

As far as I know it's not forced unless you set it to automatic mode? I may be wrong though. Is it really forced?

Also why did bmw unnecessarily complete the lighting setup with a huge giant light panel letting you select which lights you want at any one time. And then split the bc stalk with another half button for auto high beams. Sometimes their complexity just doesn't make any sense to me

On my Canadian build (this may matter), headlights always revert to automatic at every startup. After that, you can turn them off if you're in park (but not in drive, that is forced auto). If that ever became a problem (weekly drive in theatres, new job as a spy, etc), I suspect it can be coded differently.

By the way, it is possible to code menu options that enables/disable front and rear DRLs individually.

well, I'm not sure if the NA coding is any different, and perhaps someone else can chime in. But I pushed the automatic button the day we drove ours back from the PCD and it's been on automatic ever since. Except today, with the software update, and I saw the headlights somehow defaulted to ON during broad daylight and I looked down and saw that the auto button wasn't illuminated. But then i pushed it again and it was.

it's sort of crazy now that cars are going the way of smartphones. I get excited with every iOS update but with any new features, invariably, it breaks something that otherwise was working perfectly.

I have the same. No check box for the rear DRL.

I also had to reset all my climate control setting to include remote start. Other than that I haven't found any other issues.

Which is why "they" are going to have to rip 11/2019.40 from my cold dead hands ... until I hear that there is actually something actually useful added or fixed in some future version — nothing so far.

I went through all the menus and didn't notice any changes I could recall off the top of my head. I also didn't screenshot my previous settings but they were mostly there I think. In any case, remote start and climate control remained active on mine post the update.

yeah yeah i agree with you in principle. but then I kept getting a notification and just did it anyway even though i'm active on this forum and by this point I should know better. But it was my first OTA update and I got a little excited so I went with it lol. Sorry I spent the weekend bragging about my G05 to a tesla person who was talking about their OTA updates and so when we finally got one, it made me feel special. I know I should have waited to do it but I couldn't resist.

I would suggest both those that got the OTA updates and those that haven't check to see if your rear daytime running lights are on when the checkbox for "Daytime Running Lights" is checked.

Like I said, my X7's rear tail lights are on when the single "Daytime Running Lights" checkbox is checked. It's been that way since the vehicle was built. Mine was an October 2019 build.
