A little hard to see, but yap, rear DRLs work. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1676054 Read further in that thread for pics of menu controls. Canadian-build.

Before coding did you have just the one check box for Daytime Running Lights? If so, did the rear daytime running lights come on when you checked that box? If that's the case then the Canadian and US have the same setup for Daytime Running Lights.

I believe the pre-coding setup was a single check mark to enable or disable rear DRL and no choice on the front DRL — always on. That makes/made sense since in Canada is it illegal for cars made in the past 20 or so years to not have always-on front DRLs. My coding added the ability to turn on/off each front and rear DRL, which is useful in some non-driving circumstances.

That may very well be the same here in the US as well. I'll have to test it and see what happens when I uncheck the box.

I just checked the functionality of this today. In the US we only have one check box. "Daytime Running Lights". I verified that if you uncheck this box it turns off both the front and the rear daytime running lights. So, in the US this option is all or none.

thank you for checking. I mean it doesn't really matter because who would want DRLs for the front lights and not the back. But they could have at least updated the description in the menu telling you that turning on the DRLs would also turn on the tailights

I was just verifying the operation in the US as compared to Canada. As LexxM3 stated, before coding, he had the same option. However, in the Canadian version when he "unchecks" the box the front DRL's remain on and only the rear DRLs turn off. In other words, the Canadian vehicles can't turn off the front DRLs without coding.

I am on 03/2020 in Belgium and I have a separate check box for rear DRL.

Since 03/2020 I also have a separate preference for automatic steering wheel heating with temp below a certain temperature. In my case I have set it to 10 degr Celsius

I checked in my car and the manual. Front DRL are obligate in Belgium. So they turn on on ignition. You can't switch them off. The only box I have is to switch rear DRL on and of (dag rij licht achter). So it is the same as in Canada as posted bij LexxM3

You can program the steering wheel heating to turn on automatically below a certain temperature. You can do the same with seat ventilation and heating.

The function in the menu is temperature rules ( translated from Dutch). It's also in the app menu. Before 03/2020 it was only seat ventilation and heating

I just got a remote update version 11/2019.70. The process wasn't painless. I went into the settings, general settings, software update. I was able to get it here and then got a message to download through app on phone. I did that and according to the instructions had to turn WiFi on in the car so I activated the ATT free trial. I drove the car and the update downloaded. Once I parked I installed the new software. Have run into several issues now. Probably should have just left version 11/2019.55. Here are the issues.

1. Apple Car Play will only work with the WiFi turned on-it says in mobile device settings that Bluetooth and WiFi must be on for Car Play to work. Car Play worked before without the ATT WiFi. Any ideas on how to get it back to work without WiFi?

2. I have a music collection installed on the hard drive and now all the artwork from the albums is displaying incorrectly. Is there a way to just delete the music collection and I can reinstall the music?

3. The final issue is that the software update feature is completely gone from the general settings so you can't see the current version. It was there after update but after resetting the IDrive a few times the option is gone.

Thanks for any insight.

No need to activate the ATT Internet subscription to have the update or CarPlay. WiFi and Internet are two different options in the Com settings. You need to have WiFi enabled for the update to transfer from your phone and also for CarPlay to work. The Internet connection is only needed if you want your X5 to work as a hotspot for devices to connect to the Internet through your ATT subscription. You can turn off the Internet and CarPlay will work fine.

Here are the instructions to delete the music on the hard drive.

Great, thanks for the info. I ended up deleting the phone and adding it back. Took several attempts but it is working correctly. I turned of WiFi for internet connections. I will work on the music collection and the remote software update is back in the settings now. Software updates always seem to be glitchy. Thanks again.

So I just went and checked on ours. I still don't see anything for steering wheel heating in the climate control rules menu. Can you take a picture of this setting?

Here you go.

You can acces it with the app probably called climate rules if I translate correctly (regels klimatisering). Right next to that app is the edrive zone app for geo fencing electric drive. Installed OTA a couple of weeks ago.

The function is called stuurwielverwarming and is located between the seat heating and cooling.

Or in the climate menu in preferences

Mine is set to be activated below 10 degrees Celsius.

I just checked. I don't have that. There's an app for climate control rules but it still continues to only have rules for seat heating and seat ventilation, nothing for the steering wheel.

Can a remote software update alter the motormanagement software? I heard someone tell he lost his chiptuning after an update. I thought this always was programmed with OBD and the remote update just updated the user software for the driver but certainly not motormanagement.
I was also told from a dealer a while ago BMW had to inform the owner when they update motormanagement software.
