G05 45e Boot/Trunk Dimensions?

Hello Everyone, I am interested in the 45e. I was wondering if anyone has the measurements for the trunk/boot cargo space with the 2nd row seats up? I have two dogs (German Shepherd and Malinois) that we occasionally travel with. Putting down the 2nd row seats is not an option because we have 3 kiddos.

Thanks!

Thanks, I saw those measurements already but wouldn't the trunk be smaller because of the hybrid battery? I know my 5-series trunk is smaller because of the battery.

Sorry about that, I didn't think about the possible difference. I found this article and it says the cargo space is 5.3 cubic feet less on the 45e. Hopefully one of our European brethren can give exact dimensions.

The floor is raised to accommodate the batteries. I believe by 1-2" over the total cargo area. I have one on order, but also have a Cayenne E Hybrid on order and leaning towards that over the 45e. Waiting to drive my order before deciding.

The floor is flat and the surface is +/- the same as a normal X5. It is raised a bit compared to a non 45e but no bump in the middle like in the former GLE hybrid.

The main difference is the storing under the floor. This where the HV battery is. In the x5 there is just room for the charging cable and the cargo cover. This is also main reason for the difference in volume.

Because of the HV battery: no third row and no automatic cargo cover.

The normal OEM rubber trunk mat fits too.

If you dogs fit in a normal x5 they will fit in the 45e.

Edit. Just checked. It is elevated +/- 2 cm. The elevation is for the complete surface. In the picture you can see the "bump" is in the metal ridge. So the floor is a bit higher than the lower trunk lid when it is down.

The automatic cover is a missed chance for such a high-end car...the one now is a real pain in the $$s...you have to open it exactly straight; if you pull it out a bit too high or low it will block

It would have been nice if it functioned like on a five touring. So going up in the rear pillars. Or just opening and closing horizontally

The one on the current X5 disappears under the cargo floor and that is where the battery is. They could have adapted to this by just making it open and closes but they didn't.

Yes, it sucks completely and I find myself keep scratching the areas around the guides as I never pull it perfectly straight. It's probably the worst thing about the car.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I went ahead and mocked up the measurements. Not considering the height of the floor to ceiling, it's going to be a tight fit for the doggos. lol

It is not that large for 2 big dogs.

If you want a hybrid with a bigger trunk maybe a q7 or xc90. Xc90 also has a third row, but a 4 cylinder and it is not the same finish as the german cars.

Or a x7 40i and forget about the hybrid.

The trunk of the X7 doesn't look much bigger with the third row folded down. I can take a second look but IMHO, theres not a big enough difference to justify an extra $20k. My dogs are not that big. They are about 65lbs each.

Looks like they haven't got the message about social distancing. And after you put the tape on the floor for them too.

That looks like they will be fine. And they look well trained too. The malinois (Belgian origine dog from a town called "Mechelen" or Malines in French) looks the more relaxed and the German is ready to sprint away.

Thanks! Yes, they are both trained. The Malinois is 7 1/2 months old and can be a little shit so the German tolerates her little brother. She likes to keep to herself. She is daddy's girl and will stick by my side. It took her 2 months before she allowed the Malinois to even lay next to her. This may sound cruel to some pet owners but they get training twice a day during feeding time. They literally have to work for their food. The Malinois has not start formal training yet but he is probably the smartest dog I've ever had.

The cooling features of the plug in Hybrid is great for dog owners. You can keep the cabin cool for quite a long period without the windows open even in very hot weather provided you have sufficient charge. You probably want to put some sort of notice on the car though as if anyone sees dogs in a locked car they will not know the AC is on.

You can start remote cooling indeed. It works really well. I use it a lot.

But it only works for an limited time. I think 15 -30 minutes or so. It is net designed to keep your car cool for a longer time.

I haven't found a setting to keep it cooling for a long time. Maybe it would work if you order to start cooling again after 30 minutes but I thought it wouldn't do that because of security measures. Would have to look into that.

You need enough battery charge to start cooling but with the big HV battery that is no problem. Cooling uses less energy than heating.

Yes, the cooling feature on my 530e is great. However, I almost never have enough charge to pre-cool for a long period of time. The small battery size on the 530e definitely limits my usage. The increased capacity on the 45e is something I am looking forward to.

I have removed the trunk cover, installed the klein metal dog guard. The trunk is not enormous, but my 2 weims fit in it.

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing. If your Weims can fit, I am sure my shepherds can. Loving the metal dog guard too! My wife is now concerned about not having enough cargo space with the dogs riding in the back... My solution? Invest in a roof rack and cargo box = problem solved

Now I need to find that dog guard in the US.

I like the klein metal dog guard to. I had travall one for my F11. But the klein metal is better. It has bigger rubber feet, it is black and not gray so better looking and it is faster to remove then the travall one. I remove it in 2 minutes if needed.
