Ordered my 2020 X5 M50i yesterday!

Very excited. Ordered my 2020 X5 M50i yesterday. Fairly heavily optioned on this one. Ended up going maximum stealth mode with Black Saphire Metallic paint, Extended Shadowline trim and the 22" black wheels. Interior is full merino coffee leather and piano black individual trim. I think I added every option but the trailer hitch and rear entertainment.

Delivery right now looks like end of October or early November unless it gets pushed back. It's in the system so now the waiting is the hardest part. Traded in my '18 Range Rover Sport SVR for this (before that had X5M) and excited to be back home again soon in my X5!

Wow! Nice build. How did you go about your negotiations? For example did you first negotiate a discount then after that negotiate your trade in value. I will be going through a similar process and can learn from your experience. Did you get a good discount off MSRP? How did you determine your trade in value; through Edmunds or other sites? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Good luck with your X5 M50i.

No I did not get the VIN tracking info yet. Manager just said my build expected to be around October 1 plus or minus a week barring any delays based on build slot for this allocation. I’m in N.J. so transport post completion can be a day to a week depending on the timing.

I’ve seen people here saying they were getting 8-10% off msrp but since the M50i is still new most dealer would go was 7% but that said I felt they gave me a strong number on the trade so it evens out.

Trade I first determine using edmunds, Kelley blue book, true car and carfax. I also shopped a couple dealers around and all priced the X5 within $500. Difference was I got a fair trade on my Rover from the dealer I purchased at. Other dealers were about 5 grand less on the trade trying to steal the car. My rover SVR was only a year old with just 2,000 miles so it brought a fair number from the dealer who could capitalize on that

Depending on Bmw incentives in October or November my out of pocket will be either zero or me paying or getting paid a grand

Hope this helps

Be prepared for the full merino to cause some delays, but I would guess you'll be built no later than the end of October either way.

If only I could get a bit more on my trade in value for my 2018 X5M, I would order my X5 M50i today. No interest in waiting for the new X5M?

I will wait on the X5M. I don’t think those will start being delivered until Q2 or later next year. Plus I want the X5M Competition which may or not be longer. Then I want the X5M to bake in a year in case any bugs or issues plus once they are a year into production the dealers will be far more aggressive in pricing. I’m sure first six months few deals will be had. I was going to take deprecation anyway on the Rover so might as well take it on the X5 until I get The X5M.

Also if this X5 M50i is enough I may not even go for the X5M in the end. I thought the standard X5 50i was pretty quick so this one should be even faster and sportier in suspension. I could also put a tune on it. So definitely have options to look at later.

Gotcha...I'm thinking of unloading my X5M bc it's the wife's car and she doesn't even take advantage of the performance (hasn't even set her M buttons and going on 15 months of ownership). I think the M50i would be a nice middle ground for both of us/when I drive her car.

Thanks much. Appreciate your process and insight. It will be helpful when I face the ordeal of new car buying again.

$107k build!! Holy $hit I'd say that's well optioned. Good for you. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger anyway now but have to reign in the options like crazy 🤦🏻*♂️. Still debating between the gray/black or your colors. Those black rims are 🔥🔥

I debated options like exec pack and full merino, ext color TZB II...finally decided this is nutz! I have settled down and realized, things like Skylounge and BW audio are really cool, I wont' miss them and as awesome of color as TZB II is, I can totally live with PB just as well...finally I was is this ongoing Night blue headliner with full white ivory/night blue full merino debacle with my CA. Because of this ongoing incorrect info my CA received, I withdraw my order of the M50i as prev posted. that was $102k MSRP...now I have a very well optioned M50i at $96k...after my prev negotiated -8%...brings to around $88k pre tax. still plan on taking all avail incentives hoping around to save another $2-3k
This is my daily driver in South Fl and I know in the long run the white full merino would drive me crazy.. so here is my new and final build.

Haha, I've been watching your expensive original build for some time now, and was trying to compete!! But I too have needed to scale back to $94k. I'm getting close to closing the deal, but just ironing out a few more details. Hoping to take advantage of an OL code in Nov.

Nice. I also have phytonic with black merino on order. I'm normally not a fan of black interiors but the black merino has such a nice and luxurious look to it, and it offers good contrast with phytonic. I also strongly considered TZB but decided it only looks good when clean. I got word that my dealer had one in stock and went to look at it. I literally drove right by it three times before noticing it was TZB. Phytonic on the other hand looks pretty good when dirty and even better when clean. I ended up with the anthracite poplar trimp. I decided after placing my order that I wanted the ash instead, but alas my build was locked since I ordered the full merino.

For anyone debating between Tanzanite Blue (an all time favorite of mine) or Phytonic Blue, here were my Tanzanite Blue M3ZCP and Phytonic Blue X3 M40i. Don't mind Stanley!

Very nice , considering one for the wife in a year or so. Also considering a SVR, how did you like yours?
Was it reliable?

themnmd Thanks. The SVR was certainly nice and is one of the best looking SUV's out there IMHO. I've grown too accustomed though to the BMW handling, feel, infotainment so I didn't feel fully at home in the SVR.

The driving dynamics of the BMW X5 are significantly better over the SVR. The whole steering feel, suspension and cornering just felt so much better in the X5 at least to me.

Also the overall tech and entertainment in the X5 is several levels above what Land Rover has right now. The SVR also had a very stiff ride compared to the X5 and the X5 M50i I'm ordering has the dynamic handling so should be great in comfort and then when I want to amp things up the sport mode should do the trick.

Don't take this to mean the SVR is a loser of a car. It is pretty raucous of a ride. It is loud (exhaust). It is fast in a straight line (575 HP). Looks great. Braking is fine. It just falls shy of the X5 in the areas I noted. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Were you able to test drive an X5 M50i w/DHP before ordering? If so, do you recall how it compared to your previous X5M (albeit E70M, I think?). I'm scheduled to test drive an X5 M50i without DHP tomorrow, and I'm a little anxious it might be too less of a car (lack of better phrasing) than my current X5M F85. DHP will be a must if I end up ordering, but I'm still apprehensive.

Oh BTW, sorry some of us hijacked your thread!

DHP will be a must if I end up ordering, but I'm still apprehensive.

Oh BTW, sorry some of us hijacked your thread!
Kief I only test drove a regular X5 50i. I figured that was pretty damn good even without DHP that the M50i with DHP should step it up dramatically in all respects. I'm going on faith that BMW does what BMW does and the X5 M50i w/DHP will be spectacular.

Let me know how you like it though after your test drive. I didn't have the F85 X5M but had the X5M gen before that but did have a regular previous gen X5. I did test drive a couple F85 X5M's though and liked those alot. I just held off pulling the trigger since I had other toys to keep me busy until this new X5 launched.

themnmd Thanks.

Thanks for the input , I do lean to the B'mer too
