Headlights? Angel eyes?

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this is a silly question but I notice on my G05 the headlights are only showing the bottom outline of the angel eyes as opposed to on the last model it was round like eyes. The x7 pictures look rounded too. Is the x5 different headlights than any other BMW right now?

My pet peeve with BMW on the GO5. If you do not fork over for the laser option
you are forever stuck with those laughable, ridiculous "bags under the eyes" DRL's
Does not even look like a BMW when coming at you. Pure unadulterated greed.

You've beaten the now dirt (was once a horse) with this. BMW has charged more and changed DRLs in favor of their higher end models for years. Again, this is nothing new so can we be adults about this?

Yes I know - what can I say it bothers me, the angel eyes really have become a symbol of the brand, almost as much as the kidney grills & to pull this with the little dime store DRLs is unbelievable.

And you have to admit one thing, even though BMW has in the past charged more for premium lighting as with my 650 -which had HID standard & adaptive LED optional, the base DRL still had full angel eye DRL's. So this is a new ploy by the BMW group bean counters.

Somehow BMW made their angel eye trademark look even more evil and menacing with the new angular angel eyes on the new Laser lights. IMO, they are the most aggressive looking daytime running lights in the industry.

Whew, got laser lights coming. Thought I would have to change the custom plate to SLEEPY from current one, but disaster avoided!

Actually, this is not true.
This is the base F30 halogen DRL:

And the G05 non-laser LED DRL looks a lot better than this.

G05 doesn't look better by much. And actually the new 3 series has better DRL's than the base X5. I actually don't believe any other current BMW has the same cut rate design.

Speaking of headlights, the new X3M/X4M has no Laser headlight option.

This is so absurd of BMW to be so cheap. I don't get how much more it would have costed if they extended the DRL on LED lights to extend a little higher to look proper BMW angel eye

+1

Extortion to force the Laser option if you want the real DRLs.

I don't have a problem with it anymore.

Although it was bad when the laser lights were unavailable and we couldn't get the design even if we wanted too.

Annoyingly, the X7 has the basic lights share the design with the laser ones, so they are treating the X5 as a lower tier vehicle now, which is unacceptable at the price we pay.

It’s a wash as only the 50i can get the laser lights on the X7. It’s not a option on the X7 40i.

My resentment is that these subtle differences is not listed everywhere when you order the car. I thought Laser Lights only benefit is more visibility range.

I agree, I had no clue that DRL's will be different if I don't order the Laser Lights.... Not a big fan of these DRLs ... nothing we can do now..

Angel eyes/Front turn light

I have recently order an X5 in Europe with adaptive headliglts and in the configurator description it is explained clearly that the turn light is placed on top of the day lights. My understanding is that in 2020 X5 models adaptive headlights are real angel eyes. Any news on this?
Thank you for sharing so good info!

Adaptive LEDS are just like the standard LEDs in terms of DRL's. The lights are simply adaptive. I am very happy with mine.

I regretted not getting the Laserlights as I too though they looked better but it's clear that BMW is now moving away from that DRL design and in line with the standard ones across the range now

According to what I read in other European countries like Belgium and Italy in the configurator description says same I read in my country, the turn indicator is placed on top of the day lights... Anyone from these countries to confirm they are angel eyes?
