However this move isn't surprising. The G30 5-series is a good example. You can get the base model (530i) with the DHP, but it's neutered, including just Dynamic Damper Control, M Sport brakes, and Active Steering. The X5 40i is available with those items separately or as part of a package (DDC in the M Sport package, and Active Steering/M Sport brakes a la carte).
Only if you step up to the 540i do you get what the DHP is really about: Active Roll Stabilization and Adaptive Drive. (The package is almost 2x as expensive on the 540i as a result.) Looks to be the same with the G05 X5, only with the 50i model do you get a real DHP (w/ ARS).

Charles
I also did a double-take and built out both the 530i and 540i and came to the same conclusion as you. That being said, BMW offers DHP with ARS/AD on the current F15 X5 xDrive 35i so who knows...

I just think they should be offering DHP on 40i cars for 5 series/X5 and above like they've done in the past.

The color choices seem pretty bland to me. Am I reading this wrong?

Two whites:
  • 300 Alpine White
  • A96 Mineral White Metallic
Two blacks and two shades of black:
  • 668 Jet Black
  • 416 Carbon Black Metallic
  • 475 Black Sapphire Metallic
  • X03 (Ind) Ruby Black Metallic (SOP:04/19)
A pair of dark grays:
  • A90 Dark Graphite Metallic (SOP:04/19)
  • C27 Arctic Grey Metallic
A pair of browns:
  • C1L Terra Brown Metallic (SOP:04/19)
  • X13 (Ind) Pyrite Brown Metallic (SOP:04/19)
Two shades of yellow/gold/champagne/whatever:
  • C1N Sunstone metallic
  • X1B (Ind) Ametrin Metallic
...and blue:
  • C1M Phytonic Blue Metallic

I'm honestly surprised that silver is missing given the overall dearth of color.

Is DHP really that great?! Planning to order a 50i sometime in November with M-Sport and extended Merino...but looks like many of you would forego other options for DHP. I do drive on a lot of GREAT country roads that are windy/twisty with 70mph limits....

I am dissapointed. The main reason i got overpriced B&O was the bass compared to other systems offered. Some complain that there is not enough bass also with B&O, plenty for me...

I believe DHP is the BEST option to order

Active Roll Stabilization (ARS) is excellent, particularly on cars that are heavy and tall (like an X5/X7). ARS keeps the car flat during cornering, during braking, and during acceleration.

If you've driven a car with ARS/Adaptive Drive, then it is very difficult to then drive one without it. Unfortunately, almost no dealers put this option on their "lot cars" because it is expensive and can't be seen. But, to some of us, ARS makes the X5 drive like a sports car....like a BMW sports car.

Agree and it only gets worse with the M model.

At some point BMW was going to allow the full palette of individual colors for the X5. I recall that was going to happen when the X7 launched. Does anyone have an update on that?

I'll be getting another X5M when it comes out and was really hoping for Signapore Grey.

Hope it is available for the 40i.
That would be deal breaker for me!
From experience on the F15 chassis M Adaptive suspension gives you 85-90% of the handling magic you get from Dynamic Handling Package at a fraction of the price-on the 6 cylinder chassis. The V8 models are more front/top heavy and need more help in controlling roll. I suspect with chassis improvements and weight reduction, particularly in revised moonroof design the M Adaptive Suspension with the 21" wheels will handle amazingly on the 40i variant.

No 3rd row for the 50i it doesn't appear. Maybe a good thing - I've been trying to find more reasons to get the I6 and not the V8, and I use the 3rd row a lot so that would be reason enough.

Pretty huge price jump between the 40i and 50i

B&O is much better than B&W. in my opinion B&W's sound Quality is same as (180 watt) hifis. I am very dissapointed ot it.

Thanks
But what weight reduction? It looks like the G05 (4813) is 133lbs heavier than the F15 (4680)??

2019 X5 xDrive40i will be starting at $60,700 and the 2019 BMW X5 50i xDrive will start at $75,750 plus $995 Destination and Handling. Is it safe to assume these values for starting a build and guesstimating final pricing?

The pricing and ordering guides are posted. This will give you a closer guesstimate.

Is there going to be an option to order full merino leather at all? I hate the bottom of my doors and seats not being covered in leather

Am I reading this correctly? It appears 2-axle air suspension (2VR) can be ordered separately (vs. in combination with 4UB [3rd row] or ZOR [Offroad]) if ZCV (Convenience Package) is also ordered.

I have read in other forums that air suspension offers better ride comfort so I may be interested if I do not have to get 4UB or ZOR (no need for either of these packages).

Appears the Leather choices for seats are very limited at start of production. Looks like 4/19 before everything is available. Bummer.

Interesting that a lot of you from the USA are bemoaning the lack of DHP on other than the V8 cars....we lost that option here in the UK on the F15 last year, when it became only an option on the V8 and 50d models.
It was very rarely specced on cars in the UK, so probably why it got dropped as an option in UK (not sure about rest of EU?)
My 4.0d SE with DHP was the only one my dealer had ever ordered, and arrived in the UK a month before the option was deleted, so mine may well be the last non-V8 or 50d DHP F15 car delivered to the UK.

The lack of factory sports exhaust maybe as a result of the upcoming GPF emissions situation, as its likely that manufacturers will want to standardise spec across as much of the world market as possible, so dealer supplied MPE may well be the only option for USA market as not likely to available anywhere in EU from Sept 2018?

Not sure if I'm reading it incorrectly, but I think it's the paint colors that are not available until 4/19, not the leather options (except for 3 for Dec and 1 for 4/19).

Sadly, my lease on my '16 is up in October, so I won't have the advantage of waiting for the 2020 model year to see if BMW NA reverses this rather odd decision.

Notice that 40i buyers will also miss out on the M-differential as well if there is no DHP.

Also, I might as well gripe about the MSport pricing as well. $5800 bucks for something that does nothing to enhance the sporting nature of the vehicle? How I miss the days of BMWs Sport and MSport packages actually offering performance enhancements instead of merely cosmetic add-ons and such.
This is why I'm really questioning if I want to continue leasing. I'd rather decide on my timeline if/when I want to upgrade rather than go through all the trouble to pick out the options I feel are must haves, search for the right car or have it ordered and then negotiate the price.

Add to that all the changes BMW has made to their leasing programs and it just seems like a roller coaster I don't think is worth riding.

I talked to two dealers today. One sales guy wasn’t very familiar with the G05 ordering and the other gave me an allocation spot. I am #6 on their list. They expect to get their main allocations in middle September and already have a build date for their demo and show models (2). He told me to expect to receive the G05 at the end of November based on their current information. I plan on doing a PCD. He also sent me the ordering guide - same thing that is posted here.

So off to pick colors and options. This will be fun.

Order discounts & BMW contribution

Been following G05 updates for last couple of months. Went to my local dealership this morning (in the UK) and configured the car I am looking for (M Sport).

Does anyone have any insight on what % discount one can expect in this initial period? Obviously the sales man quoted me list price. Also, does BMW make any contributions after a new model launch?

He said he is ready to take the orders, production will be some time Oct/Nov with expected delivery Dec/Jan.
