Buyers remorse over buying new 2024 BMW X5 50e

Hi all,

Nice to meet everyone in this new model selection forum area

I am the proud owner of a new 2024 BMW X5 50e (hybrid), but I am having some buyers remorse now.

Name: 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e AWD Sport Utility00002.jpg

My original thought was to get the 2024 BMW X3 M-Competition, and while the power and performance would have been crazy good (excessive smiles per gallon), I felt that living inner-city within Bellevue/Seattle, I would never be able to take advantage of the power. So, I decided to go with the X5 50e as there was some smoking end-of-the-year discounts on PHEV vehicles, and I wanted to take advantage of the gas savings from the Hybrid system as I will be driving inner city a lot.

I decided to go with the fully loaded version of the 50e (M-Performance Package, Luxury Package, Shadowline package, hitch, etc.). However, I can't find peace with my decision, as I feel I should have gone with my original decision of the X3 M-Comp.

Note: The cost is roughly about the same for both vehicles.

Can someone help me feel better about buying the 50e (fully loaded version)?

This ^^^. Honestly, extra power is great; however, I learned and accepted the reality that living in/around a metro city that high performance is rarely realized due to traffic, road conditions, pedestrians, etc.

I will also note that regret is like a splinter in the mind. It will be with you daily unless - or until you can find peace with your purchase.

Yours is well-equipped and looks terrific. Give it some time to come to appreciate it. If, after a few weeks or even a couple of months you find yourself still regretting your decision - move on, and don’t look back. A good and reasonable Dealer will find a way to make a trade-in work for both of you.

Good luck.

Good looking car. You should be happy, but I know the feeling quite well and swapped out of multiple cars this year after just a few months.

That being said, You have the latest and greatest from bmw in one of their best total packages. IMO - The comfort and materials from the x5 are so much better while still giving quite fun / satisfying acceleration.

Unless you are an absolute performance junkie or need to satisfy an insatiable ego for an M badge - this x5 is by FAR the better choice. Especially factor in living in a metro area. I mean where can you do anything but accelerate in a straight line for all of 3-4 seconds before destroying speed limits. You should just do that in comfort then. I’m assuming There’s nowhere to carve things up at all and the benefits of the x3 M will be totally lossed. You will be saying why the heck do I have this completed chained/caged animal. You might regret that ownership even faster.

you’re the one driving it daily. despite it being a very well-spec’d vehicle, if you don’t enjoy it, let it go

I’m in alignment with the comments above.

The X3 would have been a step down in luxury and comfort. Even with the nice leather upgrades in the X3M.

There was a high probability, if you had bought the X3M, you would have found it fatiguing both mentally and physically over time. Mentally = you’d want to drive it properly and need the time and space to do it (and that’s frustrating) ….and…physically = seats, suspension, etc.

My solution a few years back was to have an M4 and an X5. Even that was not working for me and I settled on an F90 M5 and haven’t looked back since. (Fewer compromises )

This is just one more post for you to consider as you reflect on the decision. Now go enjoy your new ride….

No, no one can make you feel better about your decision but you.

Do you often make major purchases in life and then regret it, or is this a first for you?

A better question is why did you buy if you weren’t sure?

Beside what already said, you already bought the car. Why not spend the time to experience the PHEV first. It take a while realize the pluses abs minuses. If after that, you still think the minuses bother you more than the pluses, then explore your options.

Just enjoy it dude. You already made the decision based on factors like not being being able to take advantage of the X3 Comp in Bellevue and the great deal you got on the 50e. On top of that you say you're a 'proud' owner of a new 50e 😆 If you do have a nagging buyer's remorse, just get the X3.

Find a way to rent an x3 comp first.
What I predict will happen.
You will pay a lot to swap out of this 50e
You will get the x3 and realize the grass wasn’t greener and the crazy speed and m badge wears off after a few days..
You will be yearning for the comfort, luxury, speed and economy you had with the 50e.
You will pay 5x to then get out of the x3 comp back to the x5.

Rent one plz. There’s a reason you convinced yourself of this x5.

Keep the X5 as a way to keep sane and enjoy the simpler things in life (peace and quiet)

Get a second car to go along with it for the moments you crave the more visceral emotions. There’s no shortage of options

You should have no regrets, as a guy who owned a x3Mc with tons of aftermarket parts making close to 700hp the ride was just unbearable. On bad Michigan roads it was torture and in the end I sold it to a buddy. I own a X5 M50i and a 2024 X5Mc and the ride and roominess along with longer wheelbase and fit and finish make the X5 leaps and bounds better than the X3. You bought one of the best all around SUVs made today and I almost chose that over the X5M but we had one that we were turning in and decided to get a replacement. A month with the X3M in the city you would have hated it.

Different cars for different purposes. The X5 is a great comfy daily driver. M cars are for the adrenaline rush, but not so suited to the daily grind. Having said that, I daily my M2.

The 50e isn't slow! I'm getting low 4 seconds easily. It's so smooth your at triple digit speeds quickly. What else you want? On electric it's so quiet cruising around. I was in Manhattan in nyc and drove all over the city on electric. No start stop bullshit. Heat/ac running continuously. I love it. Even when your out of charge and it does start/stop it's way smoother than ice only implemations.

Gonna be honest, you messed up.

If the size of the X3MC was gonna work for you, it's a killer buy. Size is the only reason I got my M50i over it, it wasn't big enough to fit our car seats behind me comfortably. Otherwise I'd be ripping up and down the roads in the X3MC happily.

Try to enjoy what you have now, or see if your state has a cooling off period where you can return it.

The 50e is a GREAT vehicle! There is no question I would take that over an X3 (any flavor). If luxury and comfort are important to you, you made the right choice.

Just came back from a Seattle/Bellevue trip. The roads can be rough at times, so I think you made a good decision. The X3M’s stiff suspension wouldn’t be anywhere as comfortable where you live!

At the end only you own it.

As it has been mentioned most would keep the 50e (including myself). But it might not work for you.

Get the X3Mc in addition and drive both. Then you can switch between crazy fast and extreme fast with luxury at any time.

BMW Seattle will gladly take it back and allow you to get what you want, if it is the X3. No big deal.

At what kind of loss?

I think any dealer will gladly take it back, but it will be a high cost to the OP? My guess is 10-15k in the hole. I’ve been completely shocked at the trade in values proposed on almost brand new vehicles I’ve had this year.

Yes, shouldn’t we assume at any luxury vehicle that the vehicle value drops 20+% as soon we drive it off the lot.

How would the next buyer know if it was buyers remorse or a perceived lemon?

Buyers remorse and not even knowing if the other vehicle is the right one has a price.

But it might not matter to the OP, who has been quiet since the original post.
