M-Sport Brake Options

At 53k on my car, its about time to replace the squeaky, dusty original pads.

Has anyone had success finding pads that provide the same bite as OEM with less dust?

Is it required to replace rotors when replacing pads? Mine are in good shape, meet the minimum thickness, and no gouges.

I haven't yet had to do mine, but when I do I will likely go with iSweep, probably the IS2000, although you would probably be just as happy with the IS1500 to address both the noise & dust.

There are lots of posts in this sub-forum that you could read through about brake pad replacements, but I would suggest you get in touch with Ben at r33_RGSport.

You can also take a look at his web site: RGSport iSWEEP Front Brake Pads for BMW G05 X5

As far as the rotors, I'm pretty sure that several people have posted that they kept the same rotors until roughly the second pad replacement, so you could probably do that as well. Dealers usually recommend replacing them at the same time, but its usually a recommendation and not a requirement of any kind.

You definitely should replace the brake wear sensor at the same time as the pads.

I have tested both IS1500 and IS2000 on my G05 X5 xDrive40i M Sport.
IS2000 is my favorite. Work on all climate.
When I had IS1500, it work fine in LA but freaked me out when I was on my roadtrip during winter. Missed a stop sign right when I left the hotel.
Rotor was frozen cold, IS1500 doesn't bite until I warmed it up with a few hard braking.

What is the friction rating and the pad compound material of both variants?

I am in SW florida where it is never cold and I am looking for the most bite and stopping performance on the street , with lower than oem dust

They are low steel content. IS2000 have little more steel content than IS1500.

IS2000 will give you more stopping performance than stock, yet still lower dust than OEM.

Oh, you are asking the technical term.
Based on the graph, GF on IS2000.

One more question on the is2000- does this have the factory backing plate glue to attach to the pistons like the OEM pads?

Shoot, just saw this. My apology.

Yes, there is backing plate on the front. The rear doesn't have it since it is not needed.

I would go with oem brakes, if you’re not replacing rotors at this point

Look at Rockauto. They have a few options including Powerstop. A Z26 series pad would probably be best for this type of vehicle and has served me very well in a similar application.

I went with the Brembo P06106 OE replacement brakes. Super easy job. Performance seems as good as original brakes and time will tell on the dust levels.
