Rear side window shades
What do you think about the integrated rear side window shades? Any issues with them rattling or not covering the window enough? A good thing about the OEM clip-on shades I have right now is that they cover the windows fully, and they don't rattle either. However, they don't seem to be available for G05 (yet).

I think that's the built in luxury and the price we have paid for the car. No rattle heard since day 1.

There’s not much about the rear door shades that would make them rattle. The material they’re made of is soft...and when retracted into the door...it’s rolled up on a tensioned spindle. The only thing that would possible make noise is the attached pull/handle (like against the top of the door). But there’s enough tension on the shade...the little pull handle should be held firmly down to prevent it from making noise.
The spindle itself should be attached to the innards of the door...so not sure how that would make rattling noises either. {pics below are of e53 X5 rear door shades...but the design is similar in that the shade retracts around a tensioned roller}

My 2010 535GT had the rear shade option, but they were powered. I was quite surprised that the G05 had manual shades (which I passed on when ordering). Manual? On such an expensive luxury vehicle?

My X6 came with them. No rattles. All my windows except the two front came with dark tint windows from factory. Dont really see the point of these shades on the X6. The shades aren't made to be used with the window down either

I had them up at 60-ish (not paying attention) and actually not much difference than the open window. I don't use them much, but they are handy if you're traveling and have the back seat loaded and would like to avoid prying eyes - especially if moderately tinted windows - and they do mitigate the heat. A nice-to-have and mandatory on any luxury priced vehicle like the G05 - powered would be nice but just another failure point somewhere down the road, so manual is just fine.

No rattles for me either. Very useful with the little one in a convertible child seat when she falls asleep to make sure as little sun as possible hits her. On that note very annoyed at BMW for not adding UV protection on the rear side windows.

My son just did the same thing and broke off the hook that holds up the rear window shade. I just ordered the replacement part but am trying to figure out how to replace it. Did you just pull it off or is there a screw that it attaches with? Thanks. |

Great thanks for the reply. Do you remember if the replacement part comes with the back screw cover or is there another replacement part for that in case I break it when taking it off? Thanks again!
